Pokemon with /vr/ on the coordinated playthrough thread, and Heroes of Might and Magic 2 (freeheroes2 project), Roland Campaign. H2 is just an incredible game, it gets so much right; Fantasy setting, pixel graphics, how the gameplay flows, the campaign, the FMV cutscenes. Just pure candy for PC gamers who love classic fantasy with knights, dragons and magic.
Timesplitters 2. I own the Xbox version of it as well but never played through it. I got a bit motion sick of it. FPS games work way better with M+K.
>>11908339Yea I’m maxing out everything this cart doesn’t have a 100% file so I’m going for that and just having a casual fun only run. Got this shit in like 2004 right before GameStop stopped taking in n64 trades. Whichever year that was. Someone brought one in to trade and I just held up the transaction went and got my black one and just straight swapped it.
That’s awesome, I may do the three heart challenge someday, maybe on a replay w the 3ds just to mix it up.
>>11908201i know this is bait, but cmon nigga try harder
>>11908629Weird that the ps2 version supports it and the Xbox doesn’t. I will say I also have the Xbox versions now but growing up I had the ps2 versions so I’ve logged in the most hours there. Usually I don’t have trouble going back to games and in fact find that I am usually better but not so w this or the nba street series. Don’t know why, maybe the competition between friends and the fact it was fresh and we still played games together back in the day instead of terminally online.
A lot of good games being played itt. I love it, who cares if they are the basic bitch answers. I thought I would see a bit more rando games tho since it’s vr usually someone is playing something… unique.

>>11908516I told the story of how and when I got the gold n64. Been since like 2004 since I had the console and around 2001-2002 since I’ve had the cart. I also have an MM cart, which Lez be honest, gold and the 3d hologram were pretty cool as a kid/teen and still is.
>>11908348I'm playing FF VII too, but this time on a console. No fast forward.. and I'm actually having a better experience, just relaxing on the couch in front of a CRT TV, being graced by the pleasant graphics and music. Comfymaxxing.
>>11908758Oh no I meant that last part as a general statement because I had trouble hitting things with a controller, I used to not mind playing FPS games with a controller as a kid. I think only a few PS2 games have USB mouse and keyboard support like for example Half-Life, Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament. I think you can setup emulators in a way to use mouse and keyboard.
>>11908758>>11908925I also don't get why there was never a official PC version of any of the TP games.
I played through OoT about a month or two ago, and it was still a 10/10. I did get annoyed at the Water Temple when my Hookshot kept bouncing off the clam enemies over and over again.

Donkey Kong country 3, I think I'm about halfway through? Its fun so far but definitely weaker than 2.
The levels dont really have much bite to them so far, I feel like I'm still waiting for the real game to start. Also I miss Diddy, Dixie and the baby are too slow.
>>11909027>my Hookshot kept bouncing off the clam enemies over and over again.Skill issue. Sucks to suck.

>>11908925Oh okay I gotcha. I don’t mind games w a controller but I’ve played far to long the “optimized” controls so Timesplitters is difficult for me because it’s like a mix of auto-aim and lining up shots it’s like they couldn’t fully get away from goldeneye. I love the games tho even the first. I believe someone did port it to the pc as a passion project and u can “inject” m+k but im not in the know on that I’ve just seen other anons talk about it. I’d love to try all 3 on pc if there is a port for it something.
>>11909139I have a cheap copy of dkc 2 coming I got w an an snes bundle, I’ll have to check it and 3 out soon I’ve only ever played one.
Currently playing this and its probably a 6/10 but i'm still enjoying it. On the final chapter now. The dungeon design started strong, but at chapter 3/4 took a huge dive in how ridiculous and convoluted they became, we'll see how Chapter 5 pans out.
>>11909124Ur welcome to post here but you couldn’t be more wrong. Trust me I wish I was a child in body still, but obviously just the mind since I enjoy playing video games from my childhood and also finding the occasional new one to add to my conquered list. Do the same thing w books since I was an English lit major but I don’t read much these days. Anyway believe what u want. What are you playing right now brother?

>>11909402Its a first person dungeon crawler but your main character can use "The Cards" which are just elemental spells.
>>11909403I'm on the last boss right now and my goodness it is the purest form of bullshit. The boss just arbitrarily casts a spell that nukes you for half your hp. My big gripe with this game is that its seemingly turn based but sometimes you'll take 2 turns in a row, sometimes the monster will take up to 3 turns in a row and there's no explanation why. So you'll be trading attacks and then suddenly you get hit for 3 turns worth of damage and its all over.
>>11908168 (OP)Just finished beating 007: Everything or Nothing and plan to start GoldenEye: Rogue Agent tonight.
>>11909497In a bit of Bond… James Bond mood? I remember liking everything or nothing but hating rogue agent, probably because of the usage of goldeneye in the name but its gameplay is so different iirc
>>11909468Okay so just like spells in FF? There must be some mechanic going on for speed then if people are getting multiple turns in a row. Someone on gamefaqs probably dived into it if the game was popular enough.

Played through Biohazard on the Saturn. Still memorized everything puzzle wise through playing Resident Evil on DS. I’d have better times if I weren’t so cautious with having full heals through the mansion revisit.
>>11909651Any major differences between this and the psx version?
>>11909734Besides the Saturn exclusive battle game, there are some notable differences. There’s some different voice acting takes from Barry. When he saves Jill from Plant 42, he says “what the hell is this place anyway…?” In a more calm tone. In the cutscene where Wesker blackmails Barry, you can actually hear Wesker and Barry rather clearly, as if they’re in the guardhouse basement, rather than the dormitory room. Japanese Saturn Biohazard has zombie limbs stay on the ground, that detail only appeared again in the PC version and not in any other version of the original. Though the zombie sounds are off, they switched the attack and downed sounds with each other.

Everything or Nothing felt really clunky and the auto-aim sucked, but at least you could still be sneaky and use gadgets and stuff.
>>11910964I believe rogue agent is where ea diverted resources from time splitters, you know the og creators of goldeneye, to RA and then still wrecked their shit when both games came out so while I remember trying the game I def had more than just a little impartial since I hated the fact that it was called goldeneye and shared absolutely nothing in common w it when TS was basically a spiritual sequel

BUT I can't believe how poor the UI is. I spent so much time in there I almost forgot the kino. It's pretty hard too, got me wondering if I should be doing something clever but no, just "menu & slash" I guess. Like with the ghost I figured I have to evade until the timer runs out lol

replaying NOLF and actually trying to get all the intelligence items. Turns out they have different spawn sets in missions and in some of them they don't all spawn in so you'll have to replay them and hope they load in the right set.
Luckily this is determined per scene, so you can just save before the next area and reload if it's the wrong set.
>>11920748lol I have to play this game now for this scene alone.
Is there a pc port?
>>11919308I continued playing, and feels like Vagrant Story is one of those games that needs a good night's sleep to let all the new information sink in.
Still, now the game introduced item crafting, and after 10 minutes of deciphering the menus I came to the conclusion that there isn't even anything worth tinkering with.
Block puzzles are fun. Had to think with one already, so that's a good sign.
A remaster would be good. Today they could fit more information on the screen and make the UI faster and convenient.
>>11920839It's a PC game. All I did was get a GOTY image, install and throw the modernizer patch on it (you have to add it as a module in the launcher). Also run it as admin, otherwise it will crash on startup. If you have potato that is using intel for graphics, you'll want to tick an extra option in the menu (can't miss it, mentions Intel by name).
Wouldn't personally worry about finding all intelligence collectibles. Mostly flavor, but it does decide your spy rating at the end of a mission. 1 mission (safecracker) has a bug where a set doesn't seem to spawn 1 item that should appear in both sets, but if you are a completionist you'll have to replay for the other anyway so you can get it then. That does mean you won't be able to get the best rating if you get that set.
There is a PS2 version. This adds 3 flashback missions, but apparently makes some secret areas and intelligence inaccessible due to a lack of loadout customization and further splits larger levels. I've never played that version personally though.
>>11920847Uh oh, careful who you say the R word around on this board. It’s almost as bad as being as white as a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snow storm and then running into Harlem and shouting the N word, that’s how bad it can get here.
I wouldn’t mind a remaster at all because isn’t vagrant story like 100 dollars easy? Idk I don’t mind remasters they never replace the ogs.

Even if you want multi-player the belt system would be fun with friends around.
>>11921467I didn’t know it was based off the AKI engine or games. I cannot stand yukes it’s like cardboard cutouts fighting. So I’ll definitely give this a try. Fairly certain it’s like 5 bucks on eBay so I will definitely snag a copy if I find a cheap one. I like the fact there are a lot of unlockables, that always keeps me invested in single player when it’s meant to be a multiplayer game overall. Thanks anon!
>>11921546Okay quick tip, to get the extra 2 league challenges you need to beat the 6 other league challenges with a heavyweight and a junior weight (over 225 lbs, under 225 lbs). But they have to be the same character to unlock them, not just a different heavy/junior weight. And the game predates world tour/revenge and that is apparent graphically over anything else.
>>11921563Oh I’m not worried about the graphics just the gameplay. If it handles like AKIs 64 games or even the def jam games I’ll enjoy it. I mean, aew just released a spiritual successor in sorts to the AKI games but even w all the new graphics and years of experience to come up w some better gameplay and gimmicks it really feels quite lack luster compared to Revenge or WM2000 and No Mercy. >>11919308nothing should be difficult in vagrant story if youre playing it properly, every enemy has a weakness and can go down in not many hits. for the ghosts I believe using magic is the optimal route. if something is hard, scan it. use buff/debuff/elemental spells. and have at least one blunt/slash/pierce weapon at all times.
I recently got an N64 pikachu edition with both stadium games and 2 transfer paks, all in great condition. I was so stoked to do more pokemon autism since im a gen 2 nerd but once i powered on the thing, sound wasnt working. I did almost everything, i cleaned the ports, i tested my wii u on the tv through composite to see if thats fucked, i bought another AV cable, i resoldered a seemingly weak spot on the AV port and i even took it apart, did some small cleaning in places and none of it helped at all so from the things i looked up online, there's a chance that it might be a faulty sound amplyfier chip which i might need to resolder or outright remove and replace with some wiring. I'll have a friend over today after work who's more hardware savvy to help out and hopefully fix it. I grew up with the PS1 but there's something about playing pokemon through the GB Tower that is extremely comfy to me.
Harvest Moon on SNES. Comfy game to play while listening to something so it keeps my hands busy.
Also it was the most expensive thing SNES game I ever bought, since it's quite rare in PAL version. Loose cartridge cost me more than what the game cost new back in the day. And I still got it for cheap because it's the German edition which fetches way lower prices.

I’m thinking of trying out the ps2 one first and seeing how i like it. Or do you recommend starting at the psx ones or even earlier?
>>11923092Damn I hope you guys can figure it out and get it fixed. That’s an awesome find hopefully you didn’t have to auction off a kidney to get it!
>>11923109Yea those games seem super relaxing. I’ve never touched that series either but I think I have a physical copy for ps2 somewhere. I do need to give it a go and hey, most games keep pricing up so at least it may be a good investment on top of just playing a game you really like.
>>11923140oh okay didn’t realize!
Still stuck on the well dungeon in OoT. Been working on cleaning some old systems I have.
>>11923549Yea I know nothing about the Yu other than it’s a card battle game. I missed out on all that growing up because my bro got addicted to card playing magic, to the point he went from all A’s to dropping big time because all he would do is play. By the time I touched any card game I was an adult and long past Yus initial big popularity boom so totally missed all of that.
>>11923549Hopefully it gets more fun but yeah I wouldn’t push myself to play a game that you aren’t having any fun with.
replaying earthworm jim for the 3rd time in the last day and a half
>>11923560What do you consider to be "finishing" the well?
Been distracted by a non-retro vidya recently. But this is the most recent retro ive been playing. I plan on coming back to it and beating it soon as im done with this switch game im playing.
>>11924219I have skipped over it as soon as I get the eye and then dip out in every play through I’ve ever done so I was trying to just get the compass and all the keys. I haven’t tried back flipping over the hole yet otherwise I have no idea how to cross the hole to get the compass. I may just skip it and come back.
>>11923631And there is absolutely nothing wrong w that. I had access to an nes and Mario bros 3 for 2 months and all I did was play it over and over everyday until I beat my brothers 15 minute claim time for beating it. This was in 1999. So actually you are doing vr just like we did back in the day like mr. Duke above.
>>11924224Yea, every so often I’ll throw in a modern game that doesn’t suck out your life savings whilst piece mealing a game to you that was broken on launch. Honestly wait for Alan Wake 2 to go to like 20 bucks before I grab it. I’ve heard awesome things about the n64 Goemon games from this board but know nothing about the type of game the snes is.
>>11923560Status update, its fixed! Thankfully all it took was wiring 2 circuitboard points together due to a faulty chip and now i got audio! We played some minigames, fucked around in crystal with GB Tower and now i do a little bit of challenge cup. That Dratini is a BEAST.
>>11924286Fair enough, generally the completion of the well is considered getting the Lens of Truth and the three Gold Skulltula Tokens.
Not sure if your interested in clues about the Compass but getting over the hole is not the solution.

>>11924286The first n64 goemon game is a LTTP clone but 3d. It's like if Zelda OOT was way closer to being like LTTP than its own thing. It has the greatest ost of all time. The second n64 game is your standard sidescroller goemon fare.
The first snes goemon game is a isometric/sidescrolling hybrid action platformer. The rest are sidescrolling action platformers. The first game gets really brutal, the rest are fairly easy and give you lots of checkpoints. They are all based as fuck pure japanese kino and some of the best games ever made. Literally a retro videogame soul incarnate.
>>11908168 (OP)I beat Sam & Max: Hit The Road last night, and then went back to got Good + ending on Silent Hill. It was my first time playing either. Had a really good time with both.
Not sure what to play next.
>>11924330Ahhhh okay. You can tell me, is there a way around? Yea I guess all I really need to do then is grab the 3 skullatals.
>>11924378Okay I’m convinced as soon as I finish oot and MM I’m probably going to emulate the snes easy one first and definitely check out the 64 one that’s like lttp (one of my all time favorite games and yes, again, I am a basic bitch). So that sounds really awesome. I wish my bro had rented it when we were kids because we definitely would’ve eaten that shit up as we used to rent OoT every weekend and take turns until we beat it. Isn’t goemon 64 also coop??
>>11924416I love it. I haven’t played either but honestly both are in the back of my mind, a log if you will. My computer isn’t set up right now and needs a deep clean but once I stop being lazy and do that I’ll probably emulate silent hill and snag a copy of Sam and max, surely it’s on GoG.
>>11924416As to what to play next those are two different extremes at least in the sense of one of the best horror games and one of the best point and click series, so seems like you could go anywhere. Maybe something from those years aren’t they both mid to late 90s?
>>11924416Actually I have the perfect recommendation, do you remember those ‘Where in the World is Carmen San Diego’ they had in schools? Have to answer historical questions and search for clues. I’ve always wanted to go back and beat it and catch all the villains because I sucked at it as a kid. Anyway just figured I would throw it out there, if you ever even encountered it.
BACKSIDE FRONTSIDE MOVE AROUND UPTOWN DOWNTOWN KICK IT
BACKSIDE FRONTSIDE RIDE THE FUTURE RIDE THE FUTURE KICK IT
>>11925020Is this a pal only release, I’ve legit never seen this (worked at GameStop for a decade almost between 2002-2010ish)?
>>11908485Update: I finished it. Cool little game, will play Pikmin 2 this year
>>11924869>Ahhhh okay. You can tell me, is there a way around? Yea I guess all I really need to do then is grab the 3 skullatals.Lens of Truth, there a false wall.
>>11924878Not a bad idea.
>>11924874Maybe a harder point n click or brainteaser then. I beat Toonstruck earlier this year as well, I'd prefer a point n click where you at least can't softlock.
>>11925247anon... there's an ESRB rating right there...
>>11908168 (OP)I'm playing a few things right now.
On PC I'm playing Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (2004) & Gothic.
On Mega Drive I'm playing Soleil and Shining Force.
And on GameBoy I'm playing Wario Land 2 (colour) and Link's Awakening (B/W).
Gotta admit I miss games like Heretic Kingdoms, it's so budget trying to be AAA that it's actually adorable. Lots of personality there.

>>11923549>Evil man sets up game event, it is actually a trap/experiment>friends get mindcontrolled at a critical stage>Kaiba is reluctantly fighting you because Mokuba got kidnapped/his soul got takenThe early YGO plot checklist. The AI is now sending out units, but very predictably. They can change target holdings if you get other higher priority ones, but I've only had 1 map where they actually attacked multiple holdings instead of conga line towards 1 holding where they feed your overleveled general. They don't even send someone for empty holdings.
The battles just become a bit more spongy until you get high enough level for special moves on select units, these take 2 AP (from both units if it is a combo move). During the midgame they use full heals, but they stop doing that near the later missions?
I'm still on the fence. Apparently beating a campaign will globally up enemy levels, so I'll see if that's just a timesponge or real difficulty increase.
>>11925315I’ll be honest after the spaceworld trailer we got WW and Pikmin instead of oot on GameCube and stuff in the demo like DK racing. I need to give it an honest go because it’s so highly regarded. But I did burn w anger as a teen (young adult) over this. Congrats tho brother!
>>11925740I mean I looked everywhere I thought. I’ll check again, I really want to get to the desert temple I love the mirror shield paired with the fire cloak. It pleases me aesthetically.
>>11925783Yea, right? I’m old enough to remember when Carmen was the bad guy. Yeah definitely let us know what you decide and land upon.
>>11925927I’m familiar w all those titles I think except for Kingdom. I’ll have to look it up just based on your cheeky wording about trying to be AAA. All the rest are solid. I’ve actually never played more than 4 minutes of Links Awakening. I’m told it’s the best retro a lot of times on here and until I play it proper I feel like that may be hyperbole. I need to play it though before i can speak on it. I’ll have to look up Soleil too but just based on your list I’m sure it’s in good taste.
>>11925962I really have no idea what you just said but it touched mah heart. Seriously it sounds like you’re enjoying it overall but just need more challenge. A lot of people in this thread playing games proper/and wanting a challenge. Smells like a freshly cleaned GameStop in here. I’m going to look up some gameplay to get a better sense of what you got going on in that there game.
>>11908348New Threat is great, enjoy.
>>11908168 (OP)Metal Gear 2, I was finally able to get saving to work properly on my A1wx with Megaflashrom scc+sd. It took hours to figure this shit out, I tried the Game Master 2 which worked for sram for Metal Gear 1. When that didn't work I hunted down floppy disks and fixed the floppy drive and that didn't seem to work until I disabled the Game Master. I'm still not convinced it's even saving to the floppy since the access light isn't turning on when it saves or loads. My guess is that it emulates a save disk and the game master was interfering with that.
MSX is a pain in the ass.
>>11926073Soleil is the PAL release of Crusader of Centy and I see that game bandied about a bit here.
As I said Kingdoms is a good bit of fun, janky as sin in a lot of ways, and I kinda hate the attitude of the protagonist, but interesting enough writing otherwise and it's just so earnest in ways you don't see anymore, hand drawn cut scene stills, and a 2D world pretending it's 3D in a less convincing way than Baldurs Gate but I can't help but smile at it.
>>11926073>I mean I looked everywhere I thought. It's directly to the right of the chest.
>>11908348What is new threat?
>>11926595Well that’s annoying. lol I’ll hop back into it later on today and I’ll probably see it right away now.
>>11926090Damn that sounds like… a lot. I never had the pleasure of messing w an MSX but just from lurking I’ve heard that’s the best version of M2. Congrats man I hope you enjoy. I’ve only flirted w those games but played solid a ton.
>>11926120Oh yea so I have heard of it. Centy was 3rd on my list but I think I’m going to try Goemon first after above anon described it. Yea Centy looks super fun, I’m wanting to play it relatively close to a lttp run to see how the comparisons really are for my self. And yeah im definitely going to check out some videos of Kingdom.
>>11925927Also I’ve really enjoyed watching Mandalores review of Gothic and I feel like because of the control scheme it’s a game I’ll always think looks fun to play but unless there’s a way to extensively changes the controls idk. But the pure passion that went into it seems pretty earnest: https://youtu.be/bvpnl24kFxs?si=DNGcklimSYMFOSCj
>>11926728It's worth checking out, I don't think the controls are too egregious but they do take some getting used to. It's actually a kind of perfect laptop game because of them. Anyway there was a recent Ross' Game Dungeon on it, I've actually not seen it (as I was planning on playing the game by then) but he's normally quite fair to old titles.
I'm actually playing it because I recently played through Nehrim (Not Retro) an overhaul Oblivion Mod, and thought it was so cool (helps that I am conversational with Deutsch), and worked out that Arktwend (the Morrowind overhaul mod) and Enderal (the Skyrim overhaul mod) are all fan games trying to be Gothic rather than the Elder Scrolls.
>>11927607That is interesting. I feel like, w how I watched it played by Mando, they both have some really good ideas and I enjoyed not retro Skyrim and oblivion when I played them but they do get reparative so injecting some of that personality from gothic seems like a good idea.
>>11926595Yea so i looked right at it before and somehow missed it thanks for the tip! Got the skullutals and did some heart container grabbing and plant planting and now about to start the shadow temple finally. All I remember at all about this is bongo bongo
>>11927691I hear Gothic 3 is bad (pretty sure it's Retro), though I'll have to work out why for myself. I suppose there's a reason Risen exists though.
Good luck at the Shadow Temple anon, I'm not the biggest fan of 3D Zelda, but the N64 games are fantastic regardless.
>>11927751I knew there were 2 gothics and even a remaster or something for og gothic at some point iirc, but I don’t think I knew they had made a 3rd.
>>11927751And ty! Don’t remember this shadow temple being all that hard but it’s been a minute and it’s the only one I have no recollection of so it must not have made much of an impression.
Shadow Temple down. Now to go rescue some carpenters from some hot Gerudo babes.
What’s everyone on? Pokemon anon have you gotten the shiny yet?
>>11929541Slowly working my way through GoldenEye: Rogue Agent's campaign.
I fucking suck at FPS games.
>>11929731The only fps games I play on hardest difficulty is halo and fear. Otherwise I’m a normal settings type player most of the time. Are you trying to play max difficulty or something?
>>11930338Yes!! Playing the main story w a CaW or some multiplayer w the friends?
>>11930129Normal difficulty for now, but the pull to switch to Easy is ever-present.
>>11931613I mean if you enjoy the struggle then chug along but if not, I wouldn’t bash my head against a wall over rogue agent desu. I have a copy on ps2 maybe I’ll run through it a bit today instead of some Zelda and see if I was just bitter it wasn’t free radical doing the game or if it really is as bad as I remember. What are you playing console? Pc?
