Cheesy as hell, yet I still remember it best when I think of the ending. Yamane's replacement track was nice and all, but wasn't the same.
>loses the rights to the song and dub licenses >makes up that they sucked and needed replacing anyway >fans suck your dick not realizing that your redub is technically worse

I Am The Wind is a certified redditor filter. Alucard may be a cool as fuck immortal vampire, but he's still a histrionic momma's boy with daddy issues who stutters around pretty girls, and I absolutely love him because of that. Richter is the Chad quarterback, but Alucard is the quiet kid who cuts himself. The song is absolutely perfect for him, and hearing it after beating the game in a single sitting feels like giving your soul a warm bath.

SotN's old dub is one of those things nerds will be like "it's SOOHOOHOHOHOO BADDDD" but it's just theatre troupe-tier acting, which is legit in my book. The PSP redub on the other hand just sucked.

The only voice I think improved might be Maria's and her weird unplaceable accent. Even beyond the voice acting, I'm amazed that the translation took a hit too. https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Castlevania:_Symphony_of_the_Night/Script
Like the redub for example removes that whole bit about Trevor Belmont for no reason. Yes the original adds some nonsense like the "Matthew 16:26" part and the infamous "what is a man" (which they retranslated much better in the Rondo of Blood translation), but overall, the new version is also a screwup (Alucard disrespectfully calling Death "old man" etc).

I want to kick everyone in the head who tried to convince me PSP had a better translation, numbskulls fell for "well it sounds more natural so it must be better."

The issue was them working with a badly translated scripts because japs back then not only didn't have good translators back then, they did the weird ass "Chinaman Middleman" process, for real, they first translated from Japanese to Chinese, then to simplified Chinese English, and that's why they are errors, similar to the RE1 (original) weird dialogue.

The retranslation is what feels off, the original sounds very theatrical and fits the setting perfectly, the new one sounds like one of those low budget early 2000's rpgs where the voice actors were just a bunch of some random programmer's family.

And Blaustein thinks they all ruined his "genius" script instead of helping cement its eternal cheesy meme status, in his own words he said Belgrade "Is the weirdest motherfucker I've ever met." Everyone apparently loves the guy considering they turned him into an actual playable character in Bloodstained

So glad I wasn't a fucking amerifat naqueer who couldn't play the original japanese versions of games with the japanese voices and music. Original SOTN superior
