Sure. I really liked the games even outside of how much I want to cum inside Yumi, Casi, Natalie, Aki and Monkey Pink.
My favorite was the first one as a kid but I lost interest in three pretty early. I should try it again some day.

It depends WHY you hated it. If you didn't like catching monkeys, then yes. You'll obviously hate it. If you didn't like the PSX era "we're still figuring out how to do dual-stick controls" thing, then that's cleaned up a lot in 3.

Ape Escape 1 is the best platformer on the PS1 and Ape Escape 3 is the best platformer on the PS2
Anonymous No.12012641 [Report] >>12012650 >>12014824
I don't know I remember this being a pretty solid port. I didn't really struggle with the controls at all and 100% it pretty easily.

I'm a sucker for Richard Horvitz so I liked the redone voice work in the US version.

Overall I prefer the aesthetic of the Ps1 version, but I think this did a good job of translating 2000s anime in the same way the original did with 90s era anime.
Never played 2 and 3 though. Did I miss out?

It's a functional port for a system with only one stick, but I don't know why you'd choose it over the original now when there are so many twin stick portables you could play it on.

One thing I do like is that Specter is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, Viewtiful Joe's VA.

Anonymous No.12016924 [Report]

I don't think Japanese makes the distinction, because they do have monkeys native to the islands but don't have apes (besides humans). I think they're genetically engineered generic 'monkeys' without a specific species. they're like a cross between macaques and chimps in design.

the issue is the texture for her underskirt area is mapped such that it's reused in several areas, so there's no way to actually give her panties. at best you can give her really short shorts.
For example, let's say you want to put a polka dot in the area of the texture that's supposed to be on her bum. it also gets placed halfway down her thigh, because that part of her leg model reuses the same texture. the 'centre' of the texture is on the outside of her left thigh, with it being stretched out from there. I experimented with it by drawing a big orange 2 just to see where everything went, and what happened is the 2 appeared normally on her left leg, and then stretches and distorts across her crotch and arse before rejoining mirrored on her right leg.

Thanks for reminding me of this franchise. Played the first and the third one many years ago.
I recall being impressed by 1 using both analog sticks on the Dualshock, that wasn't common at all on the first Playstation.
I enjoyed 3 but didn't play the ones that came after it for whatever reason. Are they any good, or only the original trilogy is worth playing nowadays?

Is this all your life and legacy amounted to? Thousands of your ancestors lived brutal, unforgiving lives and died terrible, bloody deaths just for the opportunity to sire similarly unfortunate souls with the same goals, and it all ended up resting on the shoulders of some genetic dead end retard who somehow feels unironically inspired by generic plain jane cartoon animu girls. No, you aren't inspired by classic works of antiquity, or the words of great men, or stirring stories of valor and bravery; you are inspired by fucking anime girls. If you don't kill yourself outright (which you should), I at least hope you will give meaningful consideration to the nature of what you've become, and strive to be better tomorrow.

They really are just unexceptional games barring the Y2K jungle soundtrack of the 1st and the novelty of the control scheme. With the spinoffs being any genre you can think of and the sequels never really iterating on the core gameplay just small differences, it's clear there was no real idea behind the series or where to take it. From Mario 64 you got Sunshine. While Mario controls somewhat similarly the objectives (cleaning) and mechanics (FLUDD and water system) completely change the game. Compare Sunshine to Galaxy and it's night and day. From Ape Escape you got 2 which is practically just HD Ape Escape 1, and 3 which adds the morphs which are kinda just added action fluff to an already simple and easy platformer. This is why you can't get "normal" Ape Escape threads because as a series it's mostly unremarkable so all that's left is waifufags and a small few just reminiscing.

Well how about it's brothers on the same platform? Sly 1 was practically a more vertical Crash at points and Sly 2 completely expanded not only the level design but also the implementation of other characters with varying playstyles. Jak 1 being from Naughty Dog itself was obviously like Crash but opting for open areas instead of a linear path. Jak 2 completely changes not only the tone, but also the mission structure and moment to moment gameplay (some weird GTA+Ratchet hybrid). Yeah a lot of safe sequels were put out during the PS2 but most of these had a remarkably quick turnaround. There were 3 years between Ape Escape 2 and 3 not accounting for the litany of spinoff party games released between them. Crash basically had a new gimmick every release once it made the jump to PS2 and they were getting churned out almost yearly. The only thing Ape Escape could come up with in 3 years time is the morphs (which as I said before are really just side options to capturing apes. Seriously you could have puzzles requiring specific morphs, platforming requiring rapid switching between them etc.) and switching the general theme from globetrotting to tv+film?

Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter came out on PS2. They didn't have to make the jump from the 32bits era (and J&D went to shit and died later).
Meanwhile Crash Bandicoot was sold and went to shit, Castlevania fell from grace brutally on PS2, many platforming franchises (E.g. Gex, Croc) died, pic related happened, etc.
The point is, what happened to Ape Escape was far from the norm. Besides, its publisher abandoned the IP so we'll never know if its developers could've evolved the formula successfully.

I'm confused at the point here? I posited that Ape Escape not being able to have a "normal" thread (normal being assumed to mean a thread actually discussing the games and their merits) is partially because they're unexceptional past the first entry largely due to lacking refinement or meaningful iteration between games. I'm unsure of where exactly you're wanting to steer the conversation by listing these games and them having died. I'm not saying Ape Escape died because it didn't change, I'm saying there's hardly anything to talk about because what's there is lacking beyond aesthetics and later games really did it no favors by not improving on it's foundation meaningfully or even just throwing in a novel curveball to the gameplay loop. It's a conversational wasteland.

>I'm confused at the point here?
A ton of franchises failed to make the jump to the 128bits and evolve in a successful way. AE was no exception, plus its publisher, Sony, stopped giving a shit about it (Along others like Parappa the Rapper btw) and instead put most of its chips on new IPs such as Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank.

>I posited that Ape Escape not being able to have a "normal" thread (normal being assumed to mean a thread actually discussing the games and their merits)
There isn't much to talk about because the franchise is dead and buried with ZERO CHANCE of coming back. Moreso after Sony canned its Japan Studios divisions (along with franchises like Gravity Rush).
There is simply nothing to speculate about, so all that remains are what most people are nostalgic for, which isn't much as several other better platformers exist.

I don't exactly disagree but I simply find the series' lacking concepts gameplay wise to also be a contributing factor in why discussion is so dry as there's more than a few dead series or even singular releases that get more, idk what word to choose here as I don't think engaging is what I'm looking for, discussion than the average Ape Escape thread. Usually narrative based games like MGS or Mother, but occasionally you'll get threads about miscellaneous beat 'em ups, shmups, Vanias where stages, enemies, items etc are talked about at length (as about much as you can for decades old games really). I'm not really trying to single them out as being singularly stale or unimaginative if I'm coming off that way.

I know, and I AGREE, but that doesn't mean you, me or anyone should in turn go to threads like this and rain on their parade. Let people enjoy whatever they can, specially when the franchise is dead.

>Usually narrative based games like MGS or Mother, but occasionally you'll get threads about miscellaneous beat 'em ups, shmups, Vanias where stages, enemies, items etc are talked about at length (as about much as you can for decades old games really).
Those are more complex games with a lot more topics to talk about. Ape Escape is a game franchise made for children about catching apes with a net. There wasn't much content or mechanics to discuss to begin with.
