forced meme but yeah i think the &knuckles section is a lot better, there's no parts that really drag unlike in sonic 3 and the better zones are great. well i guess sandopolis zone's first act could be a bit shorter, and the boss could certainly be more interesting (maybe a mummy robot or something), but other than that it's solid.
