knew someone who thought like OP back in school. Someone who was invested in 'cool' and edge (even though we didnt call it that back then. Dark, maybe. or graphic) so much that anything else was gay and made him so uncomfortable. He had no room in his lexicon for whimsical or silly. he was the type that Corinthians 13:11 applied in a cynical sense.

We consumed similar media at the time, and the MK movie had just came out. It was the first non-crap movie about a video game that didn't basically change everything stupidly, a solid B- flick that was as close to perfect as you could get for its intended age group.

His first complaint about it was "Well, there wasn't enough fatalities."

Licensing issues, so they make a legally sound approximation. Which is also why Cut Man was called Cuts Man and looked like this. They must have been able to secure some licensing though, since Punch Out is featured in the intro, and both Eggplant Wizard and Kid Icarus look somewhat close to what they're supposed to be.
