What's your favourite version of ghosts n goblins?
Anonymous No.12097394 [Report] >>12098021
The arcade cabinet I played at the greasy local italian deli in 1985 while my dad haggled with the owner over smokes

I have a soft spot for super GNG since I played it over and over on a Christmas trip a few years back. Great entry point IMO. Ghouls n ghosts is really good too and I'm just now getting into it. Want to play resurrection someday. Zoomie by the way if that matters lolz xD

The original? I've only played the NES version.

Otherwise SGNG is my favourite too, once I turned on overclocking in the emulator's setting

I like the NES one since I have unlimited continues to practice. Getting through stage 2 took me like 3 hours. Holy shit was that rough.
I want to like the SNES game but it's so much harder and you have limited continues.

You can go into settings and give yourself more. Think you get some by just playing the game too.

Why does everyone call this game's sequels "versions"? I've never seen this happen with any other series

I enjoyed the NES one. Beat it on emulator (took 7 hours, both runs), then bought it on eBay for the cart and beat it again in 3 hours.

All GnG series games begin in a graveyard and most people never progress past that, leading the normie gamer masses to believe that every GnG game is just the more or less the same thing but with a different coat of paint. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a COMPLETELY different game from arcade/Mega Drive Ghouls 'n Ghosts, not just a port. I think jeets and ESL euro idiots also have a habit of using the word "version" when they actually mean entry or installment.

There are 6 mainline GnG games, all of which are completely different experiences from one another:
>Ghosts 'n Goblins - 1985
>Ghouls 'n Ghosts - 1988
>Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - 1991
>Makaimura for WonderSwan - 1999
>Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins - 2006
>Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - 2021

Resurrection takes the basic level themes and bosses from the original game and Ghouls 'n Ghosts and remixes them in really interesting ways. It's basically what Sonic Mania should have been. On Legend mode without magic it is by far the most difficult in the series. Level 4 in particular is absolutely insane but exceptionally well designed. That game got absolutely trashed in the press but it's probably the most well-rounded, consistent and challenging game in the series. I kind of wish it was pixel art but the storybook style is surprisingly attractive in motion and away from YouTube compression.

No, they don't. They begin learning English very early on in primary school as a second language. To suggest that Europeans learn English before the native tongue of their parents and the country they're actually born into is completely retarded.
>>12099695
They aren't, but another poster already corrected you so whatever.

Of the ones that are actually worth playing: GNG Resurrection > Ghouls > Super Ghouls.

I'm not including the original arcade game because I just don't find it very enjoyable. It's a very messy game from 1985 that came out a few days before the original Super Mario Bros. Arthur's movement is shit, there's an odd delay to crouching, and several enemies and obstacles really require you to fuck around with the game in very un-fun ways just to progress. I've beaten both loops once and I'm interested in doing it again.

Ghouls n' Ghosts is superior in every regard, and for beginners I'd highly recommend the Mega Drive port programmed by Yuji Naka. It has great graphics and sound and very forgiving checkpoints. Super GNG is a quality game but the auto-scroller stages are bad and I'm not really sure why they removed the vertical aiming. Ultimate GNG isn't great and the game being 30fps just feels like complete shit for an action platformer.

The best spinoffs are Maximo 1 and Demon's Crest.

I remember my gripe with Ultimate was that it was trying to be some metroidvania hybrid with unlockable warp points and shit to backtrack for. I guess Japan hated it too, so they got an exclusive rerelease that added a game mode to make it more of a true GNG experience that removed all the other shit, though the sour taste of base Ultimate has still prevented me from getting around to playing that one.
