What's the most emotional retro game?
Anonymous No.12161328 [Report]
It's the game I didn't play until the fan translation was released, for a late GBA game. The OP picrel.

Maybe not the most emotional ending, but a satisfying one, reuniting the realm in Gemfire SNES.

Tries too hard and the result is a cheap melodrama bordering on a soap opera.

Halo 2. The arbiter's story is more emotional than any other game. I have no clue what this childish looking slop in your pic is but it's certainly not more emotional than Halo 2.

Hear me out. The ending of this kusoge where the monsters rediscover their human souls is pretty moving. I think it actually helps that you have to grind hours and hours of mediocrity to get to it. The monster designs and the rest of the story are great, too.

oh this one's easy for me. basically any SNES game made by Enix, but especially Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. i don't know who they had writing for those games, but each is absolutely overflowing with pathos and surprisingly adult themes for a kid's game: love, loss, grief, suffering, death, fear, longing. often from the perspective of non-humans as well. i'm man enough to admit i teared up multiple times during each game, (the older i get the more sentimental i become.) i mean, when Hamlet sacrifices himself to feed the starving villagers? come on... combined with the music, these games hit an emotional chord like none others i've ever played. picrel is but a small sampling

cats love to kill, killing is fun. watching a cat enjoy eating a lizard tail first, slowly, over an hour is understanding life.

even if cats are 100% full and obese they will go outside and kill anything smaller than them that moves just for pure recreation. which is not even that common in the animal kingdom, they just really love the hunt.

Majora's Mask, probably. Not that many emotional retro games. I remember Mother 3 starting fairly strong, but then losing focus and with it, my attachment to the characters.
>>12162356
Link's Awakening (picrel is the banner as I wrote this) and SH2 will be emotional for some people, but not others. Depends on how invested you get.
>>12162120
Maybe this also. Was so young when I played this that I can't remember what my emotional investment was. The "Sending" cutscene that happens early on was touching, at least.

Based on beta content it feels like in the original 64 game or even an earlier version of the gba game you got to play as Claus and Lucas in chapter 1 during the forest fire and maybe see her die or at least spend more time with her to actually care more for her instead of the game expecting you to care for the 3 minutes character because she's Lucas's mom
