After that where should I go in Atelier?

Kinda getting ahead of yourself since the other two games are gonna take you like 60+ hours, more if you play Lulua as well. Enjoy the games in the moment, worry about what to play next when the time comes.

To answer your question though, try the first game in a different trilogy to see if you like the feel and differences from Arland; you should have a good idea if you want to finish it by 5-10 hours in. I'd recommend Escha & Logy or Sophie, but there's really no bad choice up to (and including) Ryza

Don't forget the earlier games! Marie and Elie are somewhat primitive, but they're short and sweet and a lot of fun. Arland has a ton of references to the earlier games in it, so it's interesting to see the originals. Elie a cute.

The Iris games are half Atelier game half regular RPG, but they're worth checking out even with the dumb NISA localizations.

They do (generally), but Iris 1 and 2 are more traditional JRPGs in their story and pacing. Most Atelier games take place in a much smaller area, and has a more "here's your goal, do it when you do it" pace.

I think the only Atelier game that lets you get an actual boyfriend is Elie and that's only if you complete a series of obscure steps the game doesn't even hint at, like most things in that game.

For most Ateliers, the boys are your friends, just like the girls. You can get endings with them if you hang out with them enough (except Meruru who doesn't really get character endings) but the endings usually aren't romantic.

That's what I just started with, the Dusk trilogy. So far it's fun enough, I remember playing one WAY back when the PS3 was still on its lifecycle but can't remember which one. It seems a lot like that one. It wasn't Ayesha, maybe it was Sophie. Either way, once this is done I'll likely give Arland a try if they're still on sale in PDNy

Sophie's direct sequels (Firis, L&S and Sophie 2) are all much better games due to being on much more powerful hardware (PS4 vs PS3/Vita) and having much bigger environments and more interesting gameplay (e.g. underwater exploration, more involved gathering instead of just click on the sparkling spot)

I'm around level 27, weapons don't seem terrible. They're getting the job done at least. Still haven't figured out how to synthesize them but it hasn't really set me back much at all. I liked E&L but it wasn't as good as Ayesha. A little less SOVL and the music wasn't as good although the alchemy is much better (probably my favorite pre-Mysterious alchemy). It's not terrible, most people prefer it to Firis (which was overly literal and felt very stilted as a result), but it does punch up many lines, which irked me in a few scenes.

Also, it's worth noting that L&S has a lot of anime humor and slapstick, probably the most in the series. If you can't stand "anime cringe" think twice before jumping in.

Gameplay wise it's the best in the series by far though. Excellent post-game content as well.

The time limit was one of the worst parts of E&L because it was so lenient AND they gated progress behind it. Prefer the Totori/Meruru/Ayesha style where you can just move on with your life.
The trade off with the time limit is you actually have to write a plot for the game to have any urgency. There's a lot of stuff I haven't liked about Shallie but the lack of time limit hasn't really bothered me much.

It's a shame too because I really liked the alchemy in the last two Dusk games. There are several (including the apron dress which is the maid costume) tied to progress in Orthogalaxen. The final boss at the deepest layer guards the recipe book and also some of the ingredients you need. This is a good guide if you need help getting through Orthogalaxen.
