Those were commonly done with paint and real paint has a specific noise and depth that cant be casually replicated with digital. Plus heavily detailed realism is heavily discouraged and not practiced. I imagine that once the sjw trash goes away, most art will resemble LoL splash art. The itself is pretty good but it lacks the visual identity of classical european art which best fits this kind of fantasy. Things will get better, but I highly doubt there will be RETVRN.
