The only non-jobber monsters at 8* are Gore, Lagia, Steve and sometimes Jin.
A Guardian Rathalos or a Xu Wu with the aggressiveness and stats of a 9* (and way less wounds to abuse) would be magnitudes harder than more the half the monsters currently at 8*.
A lot of players just don't realize this because it's been months since they fought them and when they did, the monster was on the ground half the time.
