In terms of fan tl qulaity or in terms of underlying game?
I really enjoyed the Metal Max games, all but two of the available releases in the English are fan TL.
The SRW fan tl communities does giid work generally and the /fg/ has mastered slamming out quick and dirty but generally passable Kiseki tls.
In short there is a rich variey to discuss.

I really liked Noora and the Time Studio for the DS. It's been fan translated for few years now but its a super niche game so few people know about it.
The game itself is Atlus' take on an Atelier game, so its about cute moments with characters, crafting and a simple turn based combat system. I personally prefer the game's crafting system in comparison to its companions in the genre. The game is short too, you can knock it out in around 15 hours. Great graphics and music as well.
The fan translation is pretty good, some minor fumbles in the sentences but those are rare. The game must have been a pain to translate since lot of the names and terms are actually in finnish, which tickled me as a fingolian myself.

3/4ths of the 7th Dragon games are fan TLs. The first game for the DS is a rough but fun game that staples Etrian's combat principles onto a linear 3rd person jrpg.
The middle two for the PSP are more enjoyable and interesting in my opinion. They take place in modern Japan (in the far off year of 2020) and show normal people dealing with the dragon invasion. The combat is great, the visual design is nice and the soundtrack is top tier. Hatsune Miku is also in the game and finding her unlocks a vocaloid version of the soundtrack that replaces every song with a vocal arrangement.

I'm personally not a fan of the gameplay, which is old school DRPG.
