So between all of the autistic and usually failed reworks and reduxxes what is the definitive least worst way to play TNO in current year?
Presumably at least one of these projects adds back fun content and prunes some of the 'letters from gay anne frank' type event chains.

There are two Reduxes right now that are functional. First there's TNO Requiem which is the old Second West Russian War mod rebranded. It's a pre-Antarctica fork with some restored and new content. The other is TNO Rises again. It's a pre-TT fork and has Atlantropa and a lot of other cut content, but lacks the TT economy and many other updates (could entirely be a positive tbf).

Rises Again sounds like it's more up your alley since it's closer to what the mod was on release. I'd recommend you trying that one out.

Did 2WRW get its own mini realism clique and strip the fun out or something? I saw some posting about Requiem adding full Omsk content, which doesn't interest me I don't really care about the Russian tags, but seems neat. Which actually brings me to another question that probably doesn't have an answer but do any of these finally add content to real countries that aren't anarchic warlord states that should logically not be relevant for decades? Like some UK content or something. Or Australia, you'd think they'd be important in-setting. I haven't played TNO in years so some of these questions may be totally outdated.

So TNO added an Antarctica update, made the Antarctica administrations playable (readable rather), broke the entire map and turned every province into a VP. Picrel is why you can't play GCW any more.

2WRW's now former lead Gopher wanted to bring on the new Antarctica map and generally make the mod closer to what TNO is. Him and his group were shut down, so they left and formed their own mod.

TNO Requiem uses the regular TNO map and is made by the people that wanted to distance themselves from TNO. After the split, they inherited the old Discord and Steam page and are the official successor to 2WRW.
The realism clique created Minutes to Midnight which is going to be modern TNO with Sverdlovsk content and an Africa rework eventually based on the leaks we got.

tl;dr Discord drama and realismfaggotry nearly killed another mod.

We just wanna thank you all for the patience you've shown with the mod's slow update progress. As explained before, we had some hitches in development and Ocean Avenue is intended as a bridging update between Old TotA and Nu-TotA. These hitches unfortunately continued into the development of Ocean Avenue too, which has meant that the full Graphical Overhaul we promised has had to be delayed to a later date. We have included some of the progress we've made towards this overhaul to give you a taste of Nu-TotA's new look!

Despite this, however, we've done a lot of spring cleaning of existing content, such as bug fixes and further tweaks, as well as adding fully-complete, new content, so you have several more paths to play around with in America's Sunshine State: Florida!

Alongside this, a lot of progress has also been made towards the next update, Go West, which will focus on a number of the warlord states of the Second American Civil War: the states of California and Cascadia, the Anti-Fascist Pacific Northwest centred around Portland, and the Pine Ridge Agency in South Dakota.

After a war is generally when governments can push their agenda hardest, do the land reform and reorder the tax code. Therefore in Hoi4 terms it's the best time to let a player 'change builds' -swap out ministers, switch doctrines, etc.
And in TFR specifically I think the end of the American Civil war should give the player a bunch of events describing their victory, implementing the agenda of the faction they won with. Always with some stumbling blocks but if you win with the APLA it should be some DSA commie's wet dream come true, etc.
