Because many vtuber fans or streamer fans in general are parasocial and immediately lose interest when they find out the talent isn't single. They then lose followers and as a result stunt their growth and hurt their income.

Personally I'd argue it's a good thing to out them because they are effectively lying to make more money (grifting) but that's just my personal opinion. The status quo puts it tantamount to a light doxxing and thus it is perceived badly, mostly because the talent has their privacy violated and their bank account smacked.

It's a bad example, but I get it, particularly if the vtuber does GFE, it's "breaking immersion" big time. Granted, on those rare occasions I listen to ASMR or GFE, I'm fantasizing about someone other than the vtuber, so I dun much care who they are fucking. It's not about who they are but whether or not they can "entertain" me. But I suspect, for a whole lotta folks, this is not the case.

People love to argue the unicorn angle but I think there's another angle to this that's generational. Older people were taught (either directly or through experience) to be guarded on the internet because revealing IRL shit about yourself could have negative consequences. Younger people who grew up when social media became the dominant online thing and where every site is harvesting your data non-stop don't think twice about plastering their faces and real names everywhere. To the older generation revealing something even innocuous about somebody is a breach of trust just on principal, whereas to the younger generation the internet is an extension of their real life and it's all been leaked like ten times on the cloud anyway so who cares.
