Vtuber streams are an island of peace and detachment from wordly concerns. There's a cute anime girl playing games, making noises and interacting with the viewers.

i posted in a different thread that mods seemed to get assblasted about and delete. what you dont know is that most vtubers are in relationships or married already. i know this because im engaged to a moderately successful indie and have other friends who are small to medium sized indies. most of them live with their boyfriends or husbands. a surprising amount have children. some of the ones i see occasionally discussed on this board are married with kids and you guys are thinking they're single. part of the reason they keep it secret is for safety. most of them like their communities to an extent but are pretty turned off and grossed out by vtuber fans. if you are a fan your chances of ever dating a vtuber is essentially zero because most of them awkward and parasocial as fuck. you will only meet vtuber by accident or if you have a friend who ends up getting into the hobby. you will only be introduced to other vtubers and interact with them if you are a friend-partner-family member of one and proven to not be a creep. the fact this nimi drama is so large because so many of you think you had a chance of dating her is genuinely depressing considering how much goes on behind the scenes in this space that you dont know.

Of course some reddit/twitch (same thing) brained anons want to use made up terms like “parasocial” to stigmatize normal things within subcultures that they parasite on. It’s just being a fan and there’s nothing pathological about it. Vtubing isn’t like flesh streamers; it is its own culture and one that is completely alien to the reddit Weltanschauung. This is a reality you will never be a part of. Fuck, even some vtuber themselves don’t understand and they pay the price for it with rapid decline. Think about it: do you see anybody in chat getting jealous or angry when someone says they love their oshi? Of course, no. Humans are a fundamentally social species. I get it to an extent. I'm one of the weird ones. I can go weeks or on some occasions a few months without talking to people and be fine with that. Most can;t which is why the coof really fucked so many people mentally - but some can to an extent. Exercise is more a requirement. Some people legitimately enjoy it but its pretty well studied that if you are mostly sedentary it will have horrible compounding effects of your physical and mental health. Everyone needs hobbies or some outlet for their energy as well. I'm not really sure what you do - but if you're the kind of person who works and then just comes home and sits on the computer doing nothing but browsing 4chan or watching vtubers then I can totally understand how you'd fall into a negative feedback loop.
