A few years ago, a Tokyo judge ruled that an idol company was wrong to enforce a contract where they demanded compensation for the talent violating their love ban rule when she was caught going to a love hotel with her boyfriend. The judge ruled that it was illegal to force her to pay millions of yen in damages because even though she destroyed her image and thus the investment in her by the company. But he did not rule that firing her was illegal. And she was absolutely fired.

Many idol agencies, even ones like AKB that claim to no longer have a love ban, have defacto love bans. If you are caught dating, you are either expected to graduate by your fans and the other talent or, if you refuse to resign, you become madogiwazoku, which basically means the company won't fire you, but they will reduce promoting you, refrain from including you in events, make it more difficult to accomplish anything, assign you meaningless busy work, increase their demands of you while lowering what they give you, etc. until you finally decide to quit on your own

I don't think Cover operates like this, but it's possible. Many of us who were around back then have always thought it might have been what they did to Coco because of the china shit back in 2020/2021. Cover prevented her from collabing with other members, which Aqua later said directly, they didn't invite her to the New Year's stream, and she wasn't allowed to collab with EN members at all until she announced she would be graduating. Some people said they were only doing that to protect the others from the chinese, but they also inundated Coco with new rules all the time, making her solo streams and projects harder, and I still find it incredibly difficult to believe that the event that made her finally choose to quit, the time a staff member "accidentally" removed all her mods and made her list of banned chinese spammers mods instead was anything other than deliberate. The prime example of GFE in all of vtubing is Rushia, no question. She shaped her entire streaming culture after playing the girlfriend to her audience, and it shows in her still being the highest SC'ed channel on YouTube. Hell, her last merch set was even wedding themed (hilariously enough). Rushia liked playing the Menhera girlfriend but that's because she IS The Menhera Girlfriend, for better or worse.

The rest of the girls? It's hard to say. One person's "she's such a GFE/etc. vtuber" is another's "she's just a normal person/she's like me frfr". Plus parasocialism is such a nebulous buzzword and really it should only be used in the most extreme of cases instead of throw out there just for general fan culture. But that's just me.

I would put money down that most girls are 50-75% their actual selves on-stream, which I'd say is normal. Some people are well aware that parts of their personality won't fly or sell well, so that's where some of the "lie" (if you will) is. And bluntly, some people also genuinely don't like putting their whole ass personality out on the Internet and want that specific "you don't fully know me" barrier, so it is and isn't disingenuous to say they're playing a character.

AKB announced about a year ago that they no longer have (or rather, never had) a love ban, despite every idol in the company saying they are not in a relationship, and any that are found out either get demoted to junior member status or end up graduating soon after. That's the entire point of madogiwazoku and oidashibeya. Instead of garnering bad press or legally being prevented from firing employees in some cases, they make their time at work as miserable as possible so that they "decide" to leave on their own.
Again, I don't actually think they did that to Fauna, but rather, they simply refused to give her the special treatment she demanded like no having to travel to Japan when she has a baby or something.
The only way I could see them doing that to her and being extremely angry at her about her relationship is if the rumors about her dating one of the fired holostars is true and they were unable to fire her when they were caught because everyone would instantly know that their firings were related and thus destroy hololive EN's reputation.
