I like to watch the season 11 episode of Walking Dead, the one that's the backstory of Negan. I self-insert as Negan surviving in the zombie apocalypse with his wife Lucille, which is who Mint is in this scenario.

Mint is my cancer afflicted wife who I do everything I can to take care of, giving her chemo with scavenged medicine and singing "You Are So Beautiful" to her (her favorite song). But eventually while doing a scavenging run for more medicine, due to the actions of bandits temporarily taking me hostage, I get separated from her for a while. By the time I get back, Mint has restrained herself and committed suicide, and has turned into a zombie in death.

After a lot of time spent mourning next to her reanimated corpse and getting up the nerve to do it, I finally put her out of her misery and torch our home. I emerge from the flames like a phoenix, embracing all my repressed anger and rage, becoming a calculating psychopath who brutalizes people with a baseball bat, because I lost my beloved Minto, and we now live in a post-consequence world, where my repressed rage and tendency to see red and go apeshit is a benefit rather than a hindrance.

By season 11? I's fucking horrendous and terrible, horrible shit. That's like the first and only good Walking Dead episode in years at that point.
By the point in the picture where Negan is introduced the show has had its ups and downs and been on a strong downward trend barring some single scene/episode high points for over a season (16 episodes or more).

Season 3 into 4 into 5.1 is still pretty good overall, but then the second half of season 5 starts and it's kind of gay for a season and a half but starts hinting at Negan... Then he shows up and it's like, "TORTURE PORN KINO!!!! FRIENDSHIP WITH RICK IS ENDED, NEGAN IS MY BEST FRIEND NOW"... Except while Negan is the most enjoyable character, he's still the series antagonist grinding every other character into neutered dust... But he's too OP and scary for them to do anything so the entire show just stagnates. Negan is too awesome for anyone else on the show to be allowed to be awesome, for like 28 hour long episodes straight.

By the time it gets to the point anyone can do anything the writing which was always on a downward trend is... underground.
