I think acknowledging that Vtubers are predatory and cultivate parasocial relationships to an extreme degree to the tune of millions doesn’t prevent you from watching them it’s just a warning to help protect yourself. I still really enjoy my oshi and my streams but I have never and will never send a SC and I think helping others do the same is the healthiest way we can all enjoy this hobby and still support our Oshis.

Thank you! Someone with reason. I think a membership for consistent streams is fine as long as we get the occasional members stream and fun emotes. I think merch is fine (as long as it’s not super parasocial stuff) and I think concerts are the most fair use of our money (you’re litteraly paying for a premium experience!)

But I think donating to a streamer is dangerous and bad. It preys upon the mentally ill who think they will have a genuine bond with the streamer by giving them more money and I think THAT is evil.

I have a ton of respect for everyone who has SCs off and I don’t know if it’s possible but turning off gifted memberships would go even further

When I can see that they're actually working on something fun for me and the rest of the audience, and they're appreciative of the financial support that I give, then I'm happy to give it. I get more out of watching them then I have out of playing video games or watching movies in years, so I'm okay with giving them more than I spend on those things.
But at the end of the stream, it's not like I have their personal phone number or anything. I have whatever reactions to my chats that I can slip through the cracks of the other chatters (which gives it a bit of a gambling feel) and maybe the occasional shout out on their Discord.
I've had people's personal phone numbers. I've archived or blocked most of them. People fucking suck.

Out of curiosity, if a vtuber had SCs enabled but not the messages attached to them, would you still have issues with it? I don't think tipping a streamer is all that bad, but I do get where you're coming from when it comes to paying to have your message read and responded to.

A successful VTuber, like any successful celebrity, is the one that can make her audience fall in love with her - like, literally fall in love with her. Same with politicians. It's just human nature.
