When you fuck up publicly and you justifiably get shat on, it's not bullying

>>the chuuba is a sociopath/NPD because she told me she was getting married instead of hiding it forever like a TRVE idol would
Half correct, a TRVE idol would ideally stay single until retirement, but being realistic, she'd at least hide it properly until then.
>>telling her fans the undisputable fact that she can't possibly be friends with thousands of people she doesn't really know (because words have meanings) is bad actually
>>you should just lie, obfuscate and string people along and THAT is actually better behaviour because muh kayfabe or something
Yes, this hobby is one of escapism, vtubers are providing the service of fostering a fantasy where they provide companionship, by acting like they and chat are friends and/or lovers, which, since a lot of them aren't particularly socially active, can be easily achieved by acting nice to them, excited to talk to them, complimenting and lightly flirting with them. It's that easy.
They also should avoid mentioning politics/controversial themes/current events, because viewers go to them to actively escape that kind of talk. Most fans know in their heart of hearts that they'll likely disagree with many of their oshis' views because >women, thus they'd rather not know them so they can continue liking them.
Similarly, mentioning irl relationships (past/present/future) also breaks the illusion, as it marks the chuuba as unattainable and socially/romantically successful, contrasting the viewers' perception and their own lives. Yes, it's pathetic and unhealthy, but it's why they're in this hobby to begin with.
If you're a McDonald's worker, you may see a fatass come in every day to order 10 Big Macs; you know it's bad for him, but it's your job to fulfil his order in a polite manner, and especially without pointing out his self-destructive behaviour, and in exchange you get money. Same with an alcoholic at a booze shop, a tranny at a barber shop, a black guy at a Walmart etc. Vtubing is a customer service job, your job is to placate viewers. Fail that, and you don't get paid, simple as.
It's emotional prostitution, and it pays well if you do it well.
