I'm trying to reinvent my entire internet presence since ive had the same accounts since I was like 15(I turned 29 earlier this year), and generally trying to shrink my digi-footprint in general, as well as divorce myself from the miserable and problematic person I was in my past.

I don't necessarily want to be a vtuber, probably a PNGtuber at most, but I primarily want to create a face to produce creativity (personal retrospects on media I love, tabletop hobby, making one-man indie games, eventually filmmaking) from and interact with other streamers with.

Can't figure out a name tho. I want something that rolls off the tongue easy so that it can stick with people. I really like old mecha anime and Battletech, so I was thinking of mecha related?

I'm planning on mostly keeping my identity obscured; face hidden, only mentions of the region I live in, etc

Depends on your goals and your content aspirations. Are you doing this for fun or are you doing this as a potential source of income? Does a soft boy make the sort of content you want to make? Do people who watch that sort of content also want to watch a soft boy?

A bit of both. Money is nice, but I don't think I'd get very far without crashing out if it wasn't fun at all to me, though that could change if I was presented with a major opportunity. By that I mean, I'm not against "selling out" if the price is right.

Probably not, but I had this idea of bridging the gap between people who'd watch for the content, and people who'd watch for the character. Introducing the curious yet open to one's passions is exciting.
Though I will say I'm worried that it may end up just alienating both crowds. Can't please everyone, as they say.

Gap moe is a thing, but it's usually well calculated. If you don't have a good plan for it and are just doing it because you want two completely different things (i.e. I want to be a soft boy but talk about muscle cars and engine blocks all day), it will come off to an viewer as confusing or messy. Any person who wants to watch a soft boy probably wants to watch you being soft. Whereas someone who wants to watch content about muscle cars will probably wonder why there is a faggot on screen. Certain gap moes are easy to pull off for example Shondo. Small cute girl but she's actually into ryona and horror. Others are challenging. Gap moe for men is usually sporadic rather than an inbuilt part of their character. I.e. vtuber who is a demon, dominant, fierce and scary, but melts when talking about flowers. That sort of stuff.

Usually it's better to match your voice to your model because that offers the best first impression.

I think this is a fool's errand and suffers from main character syndrome. Lots of people, especially in /asp/, think they in particular are going to be able to attract this mystery audience that has never been tapped into before. Unless you have very good evidence of this gap being bridged relatively often, it's not a good idea. The only exception to that is if you are incredibly charismatic that people will watch you do anything regardless.

If you want to at least make headway into this being a profitable venture, you should find the intersection between what you enjoy doing and what your particular audience will want. As a guy, your biggest potential audience is young women, followed by gay men, then older women and then straight men. The caveat to all of this is normies who will watch you regardless of their personal demographic or your personal demographic but normies are fickle.

Your voice will inform your model and that combination should at least somewhat inform you of who your audience is and from there you can do your best to try and style your content to that audience. It doesn't mean you have to abandon your interests and content, but you will have to tailor it. For example, you might want to construct model tanks on stream. Most women, don't give a fuck about tanks. So instead of constructing tanks, you decide to construct mechas from mecha shows which have strong female followings. You will have to make sacrifices if you want to garner an audience. Especially as a male since the audience pool is already 5 times smaller than female vtubers and it's heavily skewed towards corpos way worse than female vtuber audiences. It would be silly to think you can just do whatever you want without considering the needs and wants of your potential viewers rather than trying to force them to enjoy something because you like it.

I think adjusting your speech is good. But I lean on the side of vtubing that would classify me as a purist. I think vtubers should be characters separate from the person behind them and to that extent I think it's helpful to slightly adjust your speech because the way you speak, probably isn't how an anime character would speak. It is also to help yourself also separate the two in your head by needing to get into character which is good for your mental health and for being able to keep some objectivity to evaluate the character and content. As long as the speech adjustment is manageable and doesn't hurt you. Pretending to put on a voice which isn't yours for hours and hours is at best, tiring and at worst, permanent vocal damage.

To be honest, you should be doing a bit of both (adjusting speech and content) and seeing what balance you think is the right one. Don't be concerned about changing your voice. ShyLily changed her voice like 2 or 3 times until she found an accent and cadence that worked for her. Plus nearly every female vtuber either tries to pull a Shondo or a Veibae these days. The only caveat to that being you are a proficient expert in your content, then none of this matters. Think of something like being a professional Valorant, Apex or CS player. Your aesthetic doesn't matter, people come to be amazed by your skills and insights you can offer them. A good example from here is LColonQ. He's a brilliant programmer. Without his model, he would still be a brilliant programmer and would still attract an audience. The model for him is just an aesthetic choice that he likes.

But this is all just my personal opinion, you will quickly form your own opinions when you start streaming because reality will be very different from how you imagine it. My advice is also leaning towards that you are planning to monetize this in the best way possible, but if you just want to have fun, nothing I said really matters.

Mostly the stuff you said about how you should tailor your content to fit your model. Really depends on what you want to do. Not all content is created equal. If you want stream grand strategy, that is going to require a lot of compromise. If you want to stream current flavor of the month gacha slop, you'll have an easier time.

I've done my own research and it seems that the majority of properly large (I'm talking 3-4 view) male EN VTubers are thirst traps, while there are large male JP VTubers that are more in line of what I'd imagine when I think of a typical variety streamer, VTuber or otherwise.
Seems like there's a large disparity between the JP and EN markets when it comes to men, but not so much for the women.

People really have no idea what subathons are meant to do.

You use subathons to fund projects. Hence why you have goals to reach during the subathon. Those projects become content. That content grows and strengthens your audience. That audience then supports you with subs, donations and gifts. Then when you finish up your projects, you run another subathon to raise hopefully more funds for even bigger projects.
