They seem to work fine by themselves, but as soon as you try to fit multiple characters into the gen, it will start crumbling apart. Not sure how to make them more compatible in that sense. What's your vram+ram? You can use the gguf quants and should be good if you have at least 8+32. Otherwise best bet is to inpaint using illustrious after crudely drawing over the picture with skin color and stuff.

If you find videos of them, take a bunch of screenshots of their avatar. If you have reference sheet, each view can be considered a single image, if you have a stream you can grab some screenshots of the when they turn to different angles and change backgrounds, that should get you to 10-15 images. from here you have 3 options, you can enable flip augmentation where the training will flip each of your dataset to essentially double your dataset, this messes up any assymmetrical features though.
2, create a lora with this crappy dataset and make more images using that LoRA to make a more varied dataset then train again, downside to this is AI learns much quicker with AI outputs which causes burn in of either features, backgrounds or styles.
3, Use Qwen or Nano Banana with a single reference pic and create more datasets, this is the best method to create a good varied dataset while still keeping everything accurate downside is very rng heavy since those two models aren't perfect so you will be rerolling a lot.

one problem I can see you running into is the fact that whatever model you're using isn't supposed to gen very small images; I recommend cranking up the base context expand value (I have mine at 64) and the context multiplier (mine's at 2 when I do faces but much higher for smaller details), also make sure you're using at least some rescaling especially for faces or fiddly details (I use 1.5 for faces, and as high as 4.0 on shit like hair ornaments lol)
also, it's not very good at backgrounds for some reason, probably just the model I use being tuned for characters

That's the output_resize_to_target_size thing? Or at least I thought it was from the instructions of how this worked but it's actual pixel values and you're talking about multiplication factor so now I'm a bit less sure?

The more obscure they are, the more likely they need a LORA. Looking at the amount of images they have on danbooru is also a good indicator. If they have like 200 or more, than Illustrious most likely knows them, unless they are new.
