I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. In short, JWs are one of the surviving offshoots of the Millerite movement and the Great Disappointment of 1844. Their foundational beliefs are that Jesus is God's son and not God himself (they reject the Trinity), the belief that Armageddon is coming very soon, and the belief that humans do not go to heaven when they die but rather are resurrected to perfect immortal life on a reformed earth after Armageddon. They also believe that their organization is the sole path to salvation and that people in all other religions, including all other Christian denominations, will all be executed at Armageddon. You can only be saved if you join the Jehovah's Witness organization.

So basically JWs are just another hipster protestant cult that think they're right and everyone else is wrong because of how they choose to interpret a few scriptures.

Im catholic. We were taught that jesus is gods son and not god also. At least thats what I was taught. The trinity doesnt represent god it just represents the 3 foundations catholics believe. God, Jesus, and the resurection. At least thats what I got from catholic school. I grew up across the street from jehova witnesses and it was bleak, they werent allowed to go trick or treating, celebrate 4th of july, and being a little kid I just couldnt understand why santa hated them. I found out they left the church after being the only white people left lol.

Okay. Tell me then what I was taught wrong. I dont associate as catholic or any religion I just went to catholic 1st grade to graduating high school. If anyone knows anything about religion then you know its not somthing that can be taught just by going to masses once a week or even having an entire class curriculum for two years. My grade school had use learn the old and new testament (washed down) before 4th grade. I can tell you there isnt anything different from catholics than any other religion. Just a strong belief. Catholics at least in my experience are more emotionally connected to the story. They tend to focus on the human emotions of the bible. There is a practice in school we use to do called the stations of the cross which was like a mini performance of the crucifiction.

Mormons most definitely go door to door. It's a right of passage for young adult males to go on a "mission" and get new people baptized into their sect.

I'm not overly familiar with how Baptists or Pentecostals operate but Baptists seem centered on the black culture and Pentecostals on poor whites so each pull members from their respective communities.

I'm not sure why Catholic's do almost no proselytizing work in the US. They're mostly about anti-abortion and giving immigrants gibs. Big on missionary work overseas but also more about gibs than spreading the gospel. Basically acting like a NGO with political motives.

Jews aren't looking for converts. The entire religion is based on their separateness from the rest of humanity. The do need to outbreed to add genetic diversity from time to time and that often entails pretending they aren't jewish.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe Christ was the Son of God. They believe that he was just a (sometimes minor) prophet.
This disrupts the "trinity" -- "Whoever is without the Son is without the Father" ring a bell? By making a derision between the Holy Spirit, God, and the Son, this causes reality to be 2-dimensional or duality-based between Father and Holy Spirit. (think of base and height without hypotenuse)

How does anyone know their interpretation of Scripture is correct? The Catholics do because they compiled and bound the Scripture giving them the authority to interpret scripture.

Not some Talmudic Jews, Not some fat German, Not some Calvin Joe who thinks God hates everyone and reduces God to a machine, not some American Autist in a cabin.

The Magisterium, Tradition and Apostolic Succssion of the Catholic Church puts them as the only authority who can interpret scripture.

no, that happened long before the church of Rome started claiming primacy. The Canon of Scripture was recognized by believers in general.

the more faithful it is to Scripture the better really. Some things are more obviously correct due to explicit statements that you have to want to deny to get the wrong idea, while other things are more difficult to nail down ad can be included on the 'secondary, non-essential' column. It would be useful to pick a specific issue and then you could see how ascertaining its truth value.
