I started in 2015. I practice syncretically now but my main tome is the picatrix but i use the shams al maarif, sepher yetzirah, and pgm too. I utilize a combination of theurgy, kabbalah, alchemy, spirit conjuration, and astral magic to initiate into planetary spheres and command their djinn. Now why would this effect me positively on a personal level? Well, I believe it's because it's nice to know there's people here with a unique interest and a unique perspective in life that does not conform to the rest of human society. It makes life feel more creative and hopeful, there may be real nuggets of gold and truth in these pieces of occult knowledge, and I like to read and learn from them through other people, mostly because I have ADHD and poor reading comprehensions capabilities so I do better at absorbing the expressed and summarized knowledge of others, they're way more passionate and intelligent than I am when it comes to the occult after all.

All in all, OP, in my humble opinion if you yourself are struggling with finding enjoyment in studying the occult, I'd say the first thing you should do is to simply approach the occult with fun and stimulation in mind, and the enjoyment of being in company with some like-minded people as well. After that, the 2nd thing is to hold hope in your heart that there may very well be real truth to all of this occult knowledge around and that it may also very well affect our lives and improve upon on it as well.

I also had a lot of doctors tell me that nothing seems to be wrong with me either, both physically and mentally, even though there definitely was. But either way, I was able to use them to follow potential leads and to get some medication to help me with my severe depression, which along with a lot of Sunlight exposure, has helped to treat my depression significantly so far, and my chronic physical problems as well.
