I'm of the opinion that technology channels evil spirits. The internet itself is just a bunch of data. The issue with the modern internet is that it isn't organic anymore. There are too many entities that have control of the large social networks. They decide what trends and what doesn't. They make shit up all of the time and push it on the trending lists to see how far it'll spread. They use it to study us like rats in a maze. They aren't just collecting the data they tell you about either. They're monitoring everything. All the microphones are always open. So are the cameras. The modem+router combo with built in wireless AP serves as a radar inside of your home and they can remotely control it any time they want. Your CPU in your PC and phone come backdoor'd from the factory and the on-board ethernet and baseband chips work even when the device is "off".

Imagine having that kind of power and insight into what's happening globally. It's a digital crystal ball.
