Almost the same way you might various other kinds of leaders who you follow because you believe in their long-term vision. There's variance there: some people can't be reached right away or take a very long time to respond (even when they can be visited/messaged easily).
You're supposed to learn through patient questioning of your own, or seeing how things work out on your behalf in the long-term. Your strong foundation is meant to be the principles that you try to apply more and more, even if they seem to lead to loss in the short term.
Not so different from following reasonable laws, even though it would pay well to successfully rob a bank or keep some expensive something someone lost and you found. God is about the big-picture and the long-term. Many humans followed leaders they didn't see for years sometimes, due to being on other continents, whether tragically fighting other humans, or imprisoned by them.
