Jesus is at the door as death. Death can hit you at any moment, so you have to be ever-ready for your personal judgement, so - Jesus is even at the door, be always ready for Him, never know when you get an freak aneurism or something.
But also interestingly, human species are at least 300k years old (possibly over 500k years old), with civilization going through at least one almost global and dozens of small ones (meaning lots of knowledge of history was lost) and we've been waiting for less than 2k years so yeah.

It says that God loves us so much He will undergo suffering and humiliation and death for us. It's kinda like if Jeff Bezos gave you $100,000 - it's nothing to him, doesn't mean he loves you; but if he sacrificed his life for you, that would mean he considers you very important. Similar with God.
Now you could go, "well this doesn't improve my life, I wish Jesus made me a gigachad billionaire instead of dying to show His love or deleted cancer" - but that's YOU deciding what's important; like a kid going "if dad REALLY loved me he'd let me eat all the candy I want instead of yucky vegetables". Then you'd go into muh problem of evil at which point pick your theodicy.
