I posted a while back, been skating on breaks at work only. i too, was a cruiser 15 years ago and i could never ollie properly. im close landing shuv its and progressing to the kickflip. i still have trouble ollying while moving. i find that stretching and doing jump squats/gallops help with endurance and muscle memory. im only 28 but fuck i can feel the age coming on, my ankles are swollen but no scrapes yet.

Arbor Summit Sucrose Initive 71mm 78a wheels, 50 caliber trucks, unknown deck (looks kinda like an Arbor Zeppelin, but seems short at 34 inches, even with the ends chipped off)
I think it's just under 8.5 wide, maybe 8.375?

It was super dry wood so I oiled the wood and filled the splits in the wood on the bottom (maple) and the (bamboo top layer?)slits, hopefully to help waterproof and keep the board less brittle.
Ends are chipped off and hardware bolt heads are stripped pretty badly, but it seems okay for now so I will leave it be till I buy replacements at a hardware store.

Eventually if it cracks on the ends more, I can narrow the wheelbase or even just drill and mount the trucks under, maybe leaving a kicktail.

Thought it might turn against me and maybe melt and swell the board or something overnight, but the board seems fresher in the morning.

I think oiling and waxing reconditioned the dry wood .. The excess wax came off nicely with a rag, and any creaks and splits and rough splinter edges feel smoother and more cohesive.

I think I might try oiling and beeswaxing some of my popsicles, at least on the edges and tail where it gets frayed and worn. If nothing else beeswax should keep water and moisture out, while keeping the wood fresh.. I hope.
Guess I will see how this cheap dropthrough wears over time first.

What can i do to help myself learn drop ins? I just tried again at the local park, knees bent and everything. Got 2 drop ins completed, on the third one i was shaky and had to drop out, now im at the store getting ice gel because my knee got somehow painful after the third attempt

I usually skate in the morning when there's no one around and I can try the same things forever without feeling self-conscious but skating with other people can be so inspiring creatively speaking, I try to have sessions at times when there are other people too. I've gotten so many ideas from seeing other people skate, I think it's important in order to make any significant progress to see other people skate the same obstacles you do, there were so many times that I saw shit that I wouldn't have thought of at all that changed my approach.

Why don’t people treflip stuff more often?
I have absolutely nothing against backside/fronside flips and hardflips but it’s so rare to see people doing a 360 flip over a gap or a set of stairs nowadays, even in the videos, it’s like Chris Joslin is the only one who consistently tries to do something but that’s pretty much it.

Everyone I know irl only does them on flat or off a kicker ramp or something.
I did see 1 dude on the GSD 360 flip a 10 set though.

Used to skate and stopped for some years? 2-4 weeks depending on your age. This happened to me in the same situation. I think it was because some of the muscles were weak and, while I still had the muscle memory, my legs didn't want to respond in the way I needed them to. It took me about a month as I was really sore after the first few days back. If you're in your 20s it'll be closer to two weeks probably.

Here’s unsolicited advice for people trying to kickflip. Front foot should be an inch or so below the front four bolts and toe sticking aligned or slightly past the two bolts farthest way from you. Try kickflipping more like an ollie. Ollie but sort of slide your foot slightly further forward so you tap the near side of the nose.. the board should flip and you should stay above it easier. Heel flips are the basically same but flipped around. Have your foot in the same position but your heel should be about aligned with the bolts closer to you. Ollie, but slide that foot a little further forward and tap the far side of the nose instead. Hope that helps someone.

Honestly I've only been skating for two months (I skated when I was 11 but can only Ollie) I got ollies down pretty well I can ollie up curbs and shit. And can do lazy shuvits and just recently unlocked fs 180. I can sense I'm so close to landing kickflips and pop shuvits because I managed to flip the board and shit but I land with one foot or on the back of the board. I feel like I'm progressing faster but the tendon pain I'm having is sort of blocking my progress since I'm nearly 30

I also do jump rope before sessions to loosen up my ankles and get light on my feet. Other basic shit like deep squats, push ups, pull ups ETC. are all good too
