>Stiff lapel suggestive of third world fused construction
>Cheap tie, evidenced by the wrinkles forming on the edge and the β€œfirst communion” patterning
>Tie also too short, the tail can’t reach the keeper loop (if it has one, again, cheap tie)
>Faux leather shoes, given away by the uniform shine and most likely made of polyurethane (very obviously not full grain leather)

Does anyone here use the sci Fi fantasy boards? I've been getting into skating, and my skate friend showed me their endless beauty vid and I fell in love. I want Arins board I love Resident Evil. I HEARD that sometimes the boards can be flat but idk it was like one reddit post I saw.
As for the wheels and stuff I can figure it out myself probably. My current board has 97a slime ball wheels. I think they're either 56 mm or maybe 60 I actually don't remember. They're definitely slightly bigger than other wheels. They're fine for going around on the roads and parking lots near me I suppose. But I want a new proper board with actual hard wheels, as I start to get into ollies and manuals and basic things. The board I use is some second hand board I got for relatively cheap. I will say I'm worried about putting grip tape on, that sounds kinda scary.
Anyways, tldr, are sci Fi fantasy boards nice? I don't really know if boards have a difference other than design...

sci fi fantasy is great. Don't worry about your gear rn, just skate. Most skaters are broke and skate their shit until its completely busted, so don't think about buying more shit until you're at that point. Just skate rn. But for your next wheels I would get smaller and harder yea. But big and soft is good for a beginner cruising around, which is what you should be doing rn. As a minor follow up to this, yesterday me and my ex skated a bit because I really wanted to try her board. She got me into skating and her 7.5" board felt way too small at the time months ago. She had bone 100s on them too. I got the 8.5" because I felt I'd be more comfortable learning on that and I was right. But yesterday when I tried her board for literally just one minute, I felt fucking amazing. It felt smooth, I felt good, I felt comfortable. Maybe still just a little too small width wise. But I don't know how much of it was the wheels or the size or both. It was semi decent asphalt, nothing hyper smooth but smooth enough.
I'm gonna take a ride 40 minutes out to a skate shop tomorrow, because I think I want to see how an 8 inch board feels (I'm just assuming they'd have a board or something for me to stand on? Idk I've never been to a shop before)
I don't know how dramatic of a difference 8.5 to 8.25 is, or 7.5 to 7.75. I absolutely want something smaller than 8.5, no questions asked. Maybe I'll look at Girl and see if they have anything nice, IF 8.25 isn't actually much smaller than 8.5. Obviously .25 of an inch isn't a lot in the real world but I really have no idea what it's like on a skateboard. I've only stepped on two in my life, the 8.5 and the 7.5. I'm leaning towards 7.75 or 8.
I'm mostly rambling here but I'm sure you guys could see what I'm asking. How big of a difference is .25 on a board? Should I just split the difference and go 8 even? Also as a bonus question, should I go symmetrical when learning or just stick with a normal board that has the nose raised higher than the tail. I still can't do tic tacs or kick turns or anything yet. I'm good at pushing and can carve great, and can go down inclines that don't have a dramatic switch in level (some busted parking lot near me has a semi-steep incline I practice on, but the transition is smooth).
Sorry if I sound retarded or whatever, I'm still new to this! Thank you for any responses.

The reason it's not cool is because at this point it's not a skater's achievement.
You can put Burnquist into the same setup or even fucking Fletcher could do it.
It's an NBD and a world record for all the R&D teams that done the math, engineering and prep do build the whole ramp, stoppers, board setup, the suit e.t.c which is still cool, but not for the skating itself.
It's badically just a medium. You could replace the board with rollerskates and it would basically the the same.

Seeing dudes bomb SF hills on a 53mm hard wheel and soft trucks in a t-shirt looks way crazier than this unironically.

If you have the money just look up any boardshop and what brands buy blanks from them.
Buy a 8.25 board, indy trucks, any bearings and 101A 53mm wheels.
After that just try out different wheels and boards until you feel comfortable and stick with that.
You really can't go wrong with BBS boards, indy trucks, bones reds/bronson G3 and any dual formula street wheel.
I ride 54mm X97 bones and they feel really nice. Very soft for riding rough street and slide just as good as 101A

Wider boards are for comfort, the leverage point on a skateboard is in the pivot bushing, not the board on top; Skateboards originally had roller skate truck with a skinny board attached and you could carve those easily.
Longer boards are fine for extremely high speeds but unless you're regularly bombing hills there is hardly a need for a longer board, I cite Nuge's hill bomb. "Good carving feel" is a result of good board control, if your terrain is bad like mine is you can ride longboard wheels on a regular deck with risers. Carrying a battery board is not as difficult as you make it out to be, find the center of gravity and carry it. There are people with one or no legs that still skateboard. All of your excuses makes me assume you actually carry your battery board like wheeled luggage, do yourself a favor and stop making excuses. Going from a different sized board or a different sized + type wheel.
Like my current board is 8.375 with wheels that go like half an inch past the fucking board, and they're pretty soft too and 60mm. It's a second hand board. I don't really know though if size of the board is an issue. Obviously I want a new board with different harder smaller wheels. But I just can't tell if I want 8 inch or if the 8.25s would be fine. lmao you're using leverage either way but a wider board sorta lets you stiffen up the bushings a little more allowing you to use bodyweight more instead of just angling your feet. the end result is a larger gradient of force you can apply which is useful for longer heavier carving than the spazzing out in your gif. as in carving at a higher speed while still retaining stability. not turning at a faster rate but turning while moving at a higher speed. with a thinner board you need looser bushings because you cant apply as much force using your weight, and then you're relying much more on very small muscles in your ankles instead of using more of your entire bodyweight and overall stabilizing muscles in your entire body
a wider board allows you to make heavy turns with higher g forces and use completely different muscle groups more

That's not speed wobble, fat fuck is bombing a hill and precisely carving because he has board control despite his weight, looser trucks, and skinnier board. Probably has beefy ankle muscles. You seem to think board control is reduced with a skinny board and that's because you're reliant on tight trucks for the sake of speed which is why you have less board control, if you want high speed and tight trucks get a longboard dude.
Anonymous No.243638 >>243646 >>243654

i didnt say it was speed wobble
its pretty simple all im saying is a bigger board (wider and longer) will let you take relatively harder turns at higher speeds better without as much chance of losing control
>fat fuck is bombing a hill and precisely carving because he has board control despite his weight, looser trucks, and skinnier board.
maybe you realize this but his trucks possibly arent actually more loose, he literally has more weight he can apply and create more leverage despite a thinner deck, due to being fat
>you're reliant on tight trucks for the sake of speed which is why you have less board control, if you want high speed and tight trucks get a longboard dude.
i go about 15-20mph. does this look tight for that speed?

I am so confused but is one guy trying to argue that bigger boards are more manoeuvrable?
>Bigger = Stable
>Smaller = Responsive
Surely common sense or I misunderstood the autism.
Anonymous No.243642
>>243639
the faster you're going the less stable a turn will be. with a wider deck you can tighten the trucks and still turn just as hard due to the increased leverage available, and have more stability due to a wider range of force that you can apply to the trucks, involving more muscle groups in your body overall rather than in the ankles

You called it spazzing out, I sarcastically used the term speed wobble because you don't get how board width matters less than board control. look here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSr-Sft4Zk
dude is using a skinny two foot long board. you're not going any faster than a regular skateboard can, using your hand to pull on the board to make it turn more, and you think all that is helping you carve better? cmon now

Hi I'm pretty new to skating. Can't do any tricks, but I have the basics down, pushing, tic tacs, kick turns, that stuff. But I'm not sure I'm doing it right
I thought I saw somewhere that you're supposed to, for most things, be using the balls of your feet as like, your everything. Like your full foot shouldn't be on the board. That when you tic tac, it's all based on the balls of your feet. Is that true? It burns my ankles like a proper workout when doing it, but I'm not sure that's supposed to be how everything is. Usually my foot is partially over the edge of both sides of the board, heel and toes over, but I started to use the balls of my feet more as the "everything" factor with turning, tic tacs etc
Anonymous No.243744 >>243765

Been thinking of buying a penny board. Kind of shocked at the cost because it's basically just a hunk of plastic with wheels. I wanted it because I assumed it would be a cheap alternative to an entire setup and I just want to cruise around. Seems like there's a bit of a stigma against them too? Idk haven't skated since middle school. Advice?
