Hakuoho needs arm replacement surgery. No amount of work on his arms will change the fact that his fat arm shape and lack of reach kill him. Many matches I see him lose involve him trying to grab the belt and being unable to because he has T-Rex arms.

After rewatching the playoff bout for like the dozenth time I noticed something that I haven't seen anyone else point out yet.
It was Kakuryu who called the mono-ii. It was a clear victory for Onosato and the mono-ii was some unexpected extra drama after the bout, seemed to add to the suspense a little, but now realizing that it was Kakuryu calling for it unnecessarily in support of his racial brethren, it seems a kinda filthy

Most oyakata fucking suck at training up their dudes. Just look at the mighty Nishonoseki; without Onosato his list of sekitori would consist of the faltering Shirokuma. The JSA chairman is only just getting his single sekitori back next basho in Kitanowaka.

Being a top tier oyakata isn't about training your dudes, it's about recruiting the best dudes. You can't train someone to have physique like Onosato, or a fighting IQ and drive like Hoshoryu. Hakuho first met Ochiai when he was 11.

Ajigawa has only been open for 3 years. It took Hakuho 3 years to go from maezumo to sekitori. Just because megastars aren't produced every other basho doesn't mean they're not good coaches. If you listen to Aonishiki interviews, you see Ajigawa giving good technical advice, instead of the typical "use more fighting spirit" and "work on doing his brand of sumo," so I'm inclined to believe he's a good coach.

Could've fucking shaved. Zak being in the promos is a shame since he pulled out with that MCL tear. I'm hella surprised Takerufuji is going. Has his injury healed? Will he be winning his 3rd Juryo yusho a month from now?

A complete bicep tear like that isn't something that ever returns to full functionality. If you're very intelligent with your recovery post-sugery you might come close, but this is sumo and we know he won't be.

Ukrainian sumo wrestler Anseikin, who is visiting the UK for the London Grand Sumo Tournament, interacted with local amateur wrestlers.

Anseikin visited the venue for a tournament for British amateur wrestlers.

Twenty-four men and women participated in the tournament, battling fiercely in front of their idols from Japan.

Anseikin
"I was really happy that my name is being recognized. I want to continue to promote sumo in Europe."

The London Grand Sumo Tournament will run for five days from the 15th.

Pretty based honestly. Any Makuuchi rikishi could walk into any form of wrestling club and be treated like royalty.

Who is taking this tournament then?
Will it be Suius or Ommo?

Anon, the outcome has already been decided. Hoshoryu will win his previous matches with visually spectacular techniques, before Onosato proves on the final day that Japanese strength and simplicity is superior. There's not a chance in hell that the JSA would allow a Mongolian to win such a rare and important international exhibition.

The funny thing is, I don't think he even speaks english very well. Like he can understand it because that's how he had to learn japanese (you can see it in NHK's docummentary), but unless he picked up a lot in the last 6 months he's not much more enlgando-literate than the regular rikishi

I dunno, mainland European kids have been accidentally learning English for 20+ years now. His English is certainly better than most Mong/Nip rikishi. Imagine Onosato going into a chippy.

Nobody working at the chippy would be English anyway, so it's a moot point. If they can understand Londoners they can understand a fat guy asking for the most calorific item on their menu.

The rikishi seem to have been instructed to hang around the Kensington area so it's very likely any food place they go into is owned and run by hwhites.
