Same! Love that Oda tried an unusual design for her, with mouth, nose and eyes VERY different from what he usually uses in women. Estrid is the one with the more typical "pretty girl design".

I loved what one commenter said, about Estrid's more traditionally attractive design reflecting the way the society perceives her, while the opposite happens to Ida, who is considered unsuitable for Harald.


Oda has very varied female designs since Zou. Big Mom's childeren in particular; that long neck girl, Smoothie, the mermaid, Brulee.

He just tends to make the most central women Nami clones. Which makes the whole thing frustrating, because he's clearly capable of making varied female designs.

I’m 100% on board with this. Hajrudin’s mom is probably the only person on elbaph who took kindly to Loki because she’s an extremely compassionate person. As to why she has to use an Alias, I’m guessing it’s related to the WG and what happened to Harald, so she’s in hiding or she is being held hostage at Marejoise.

That would make a lot of sense. That would explain why Mosa had to stop talking to Loki suddenly. Her taking providing support to the son her rival abandoned would be great, and she could be the reason for Hajrudin and Loki finally bonding.

The only issue is that it seems that Mosa has a very unique princess-like way of speaking. Is it the same with Ida?

I think they say it earlier in the story, but Hajrudin and his mother…were not treated very favorably by larger Elbaf, possibly due to the Elders’ words. That kind of treatment has a habit of breeding resentment into a child witnessing it all.

I think this might be one of the few instances where Oda has depicted a conventionally attractive female character as irredeemably shitty while making the more mediocre female character the opposite.

I just became a dad a few months ago. Oda has created some really emotional chapters, but this one really evoked some new emotions in me that I assume only parents can understand. Those last 2 pages really made my heart ache no child deserves that.

Sadly this is a common response by parents when something is "wrong" with the kid. I witnessed it often working in the psych field. People want to believe theyre "normal" and if theres a complication or unexpected development with a child being born, parents can sometimes reveal how selfish and awful they are by immediately wanting to get rid of the kid as its no longer a kid, but a inconvenience. I even had to deal with someone who wanted to put their kid up for adoption and change the name of their kid to not "dishonor" the father's grandparent who the kid was named after, simply because he was born with a developmental disability. People can sometimes be the absolute worst, even to their own infants.

Just a few decades ago in the USA, if a kid was born and had something "off" about them, the parents would just sent them to a institution to be out of sight and out of mind, and there are numerous documented cases of people having no mental disability and simply having ceberal palsy, but ignorant parents terrified of their kid not being "normal" simply abandoned them.

We've luckily made advances to these kinds of things, but theres still an alarming amount of people in the population who hold a view that someone born "normal" isnt even human. Many of these people also consider themselves "good christians"

So this chapter seems to confirm Harald was ultimately sincere about wanting to modernize Elbaph. I wonder what kind of contract Imu tried to force on him? I love how the last chapter describes him as scum yet it turned out his attack was a rescue and the person he "rescued" quickly straightened him out.

Assuming Lola appears in this flashback I wonder if the reason Loki wanted to marry her is because she saw his eyes and wasn’t afraid and what tipped him off about the switch with Chiffon was that when she saw his eyes she was afraid? I can imagine Lola was probably one of the few people genuinely nice to him.

I'm thinking the opposite desu, that Imu wanted a war country subservient to the world government and flipped the guards to kill him to install a member of that elder council as a puppet. Or flipped the elders who ordered the guards to do a coup.

I don't think so. It's more likely Harald was domi reversed. Look at the panel where the guards stabbed him -- Harald's shoulders suspiciously looked like demon wings. I think either Harald asked the guards to try their best in subduing him once he flipped or the guards understood that he is transforming into a demon and tried to prevent the change from happening.

Then the panel with one of the guards screaming that he can't leave the locked throne room with the next panel showing blood splatters. It was made clear that Loki had to kill his father.

I definitely think Loki being forced to kill his now evil father is the most likely explanation. Especially with Loki talking about how he does not want to relive such a terrible day, and a flashback basically confirming that Harald was a jerk as a "teen" but then became an actual good person. Who knows if he knew about Imu, but he could not have known what a deal to join the WG might include. So Imu flips him due to only really needing their nation for war, a previously warlike nation with a powerful and beloved king who now cares about other cultures and peace is not as useful.

I think imu or one of the elders caught wind of heralds plans, flipped Harald forcibly or gave him some ultimatum that he had to give his soul to the wg or his kingdom would be burned down.

Didn’t last chapter already show us that Loki did not kill Harald? I guess it’s possible that he survived all those stabs and Loki finished him off, but far more likely that Loki had to massacre the guards and either lied about killing his father as well or could not convince the people that he did not kill him.

I mean, the way it strikes me is that growing up he was a bully because he was the biggest strongest kid. Saving Ida was seeing a cute girl in what he perceived to be distress and trying to flex to show off.

Then she slapped him silly and told him off for being a jerk and caused him to re-evaluate his whole ass world view. Hormones man, they're a beast.


This chapter really confirms the themes of this arc, misunderstandings and retelling of storys.

We have a retelling of the story of nika, the misunderstanding of loko life, the misunderstanding of harald and confusion between brothers.

Might actually be the opposite. Log poses may be a symptom of the ancient weapons fucking up the oceans, whereas the path to Laugh Tale would have been routed in ancient times, so it's possible that they used celestial coordinates to record the position of the island. Giant culture being closest to being preserved from that time could have retained those navigation methods.

Log pose is a navigational cheat code for Grand Line. No need to think, just sail where the needle points and you'll get to the next island. Add to this the lack of proper mapping to help with the regular navigation and everyone ends up following the pointy thing. his is just something interesting about Loki.

But we all know Oda like his puns, right? You know what "Loki" sounds like? Yea, the pronunciation of Loki sounds a lot like "Lucky." Even the Japanese writing is pretty similar, which Oda loves to do.

Surprised this isnt mentioned yet from what I saw, this is literally the story of Oedipus. The Oracle foretold that Oedipus would slay his father and lay with his mother, and so his parents threw him from a cliff as a child in the hopes of avoiding the prophecy. He was found and raised separate from his birth parents and the prophecy eventually came true because he wasnt aware who his parents were. Ultimately, Oedipus blinds himself when he learns what he's done. (Sidenote fuck Sigmund Freud for ruining this story with his wack ass interpretation)

Now, obviously this won't be 1:1 as some things are different already, but its an interesting parallel to look at, especially considering his current blindfold. Hopefully he didnt fuck his mom.

While this chapter may have proven us that Hajrudin & Loki will become the most important allies that Emperor Luffy ever had since Kuma & Bon Clay, a bigger question we should ask is which one of them will truly be the kind of leader that Elbaph will need. Because even if Luffy & the others do manage to stop Imu for the time being and/or free the giants who are under their control, the people will need a leader who will protect their land for the long run. Whether it would be Loki, who restore Elbaph to its former glory by any means necessary, or Hajrudin who believes that uniting all giants, even those not of Elbaph, would ensure their victory in the final battles to come!

It's no surprise that Loki is by far the Charlotte Pudding of the Elbaph arc, and his upbringing may support the possibility of him becoming an "official" Strawhat. However, assuming Luffy & the others were to see his true eyes, will there response be similar to how Sanji reacted when he saw Pudding's 3rd eye for the first time?

I love the parallel between both mothers, Where Hajrudin's mother respected people of all sizes, even stating that being born different shouldn't matter. Meanwhile Estrid straight up abandons her child for looking different.

I think the looks are actually important here. They're based on the way society sees the characters. Ida is the "ugly" one who comes from a different culture and isn't accepted by the elders while Estrid is the "pretty" one who fits their insistence on high society breeding and blood purity. Their personalities are the exact opposite of their looks and it's really effective.

It's interesting how it's manifested with their children. The "pure-blood" Loki is hated and reviled, even though none of it is his fault. It reveals how shallow their purity ideals are. First they reject Ida and Hajrudin for not being fully of Elbaf, then they turn around and reject Loki just because of how he looks.

That eight-legged horse isn’t just a background creature. It’s a clear reference to Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse from Norse mythology.

Sleipnir could move between realms — the underworld, the mortal world, and the realm of the gods. And in this chapter, we literally see Loki climbing up from the underworld, clawing his way toward the surface.

I’m guessing this is absolutely the reason why. It’s probably a scenario where Loki is jealous of Hajrudin having a loving mother and Hajrudin is jealous of Loki and his mother getting to be Harald’s official family. This could even explain part of why Hajrudin wants to become King of the Giants.

You have to consider that giving the equivalent of 6-8 year olds military training is pretty wild.

It's as Harald said, they were supposed to change some traditions to accommodate other cultures (like the raiding part), but nowhere does he say disarming. I guess in his absence, that stuff shifted into a weirder direction.

I don't know their earlier traditions or what exactly their ages amount to. I said military training for simplicity sake. It seems to me they are actively discouraging the kids from anything that could be associated with fighting and in the world of One Piece it's not something I would recommend.

I'm not sure what the significance of that is, outside of the Monkey family possibly having Giant blood (Though, the only non-human member of the D clan we've met is Saul. This chapter kind of confirms my theory that mass technological advancement only really started about 100 years ago. After all, it was only 400 years ago that Noland had to get permission to enter the grandline, and thats when he found the golden city in what is now Jaya.

King Harold was sound. Really solid dude and regardless of how he started, he was open to meeting and learning from new people. His former self was a product of his environment and he was a good representation of the harm the elbaph elders cause on their own peoples mindset. I really don't believe Harald turned on his own people, that would be out of character for him based on what we learned on this chapter. Hate to make this comparison but Harold was not like Oden at all. Oden never really wanted to rule at all. Harald, on the other hand, seemed like someone who wanted to reform as much of the old ways as possible. He went on those journeys with intent to trade and experience different cultures. Not just for himself but the benefit of Elbaph. If he made a deal with the WG, they definetily were not fully transparent about their agenda. Baby Loki crawling up from the realm of the dead for me is the best panel of the arc and just by itself makes Loki an incredible character. Insane visual that warrants Loki becoming a straw hat from it.

My other takeaway is the tale of the 2 wives. Ida’s an angel who was the first to confront Harald and not let him be a little shit. All he needed to not be a monster was a woman to put him in his place. Meanwhile Estrid is a devil, deplorable woman who deserves the worst.

If Loki is going to join the crew, then he's gonna need a way to shrink down. Loki has turned into a fly in mythology, so it could be the fly-fly fruit. I think it would be funny if the legendary fruit is the ant-ant fruit and Loki is just an Antman. A couple of things noticeable in this chapter:

105 years ago the giant sword in Elbaf is still in the branches of the Adam tree. I can't wait for the mystery to be solved of who wielded that sword because it's significantly bigger than any giant we've seen so far.

The Elbaf giants call the Red Line the "blood-soaked serpent" which is clearly a reference to Jormungandr. I'm thinking this points to Loki NOT having this mythical DF. If they already have something that references this creature, I doubt we have something else in the future that also references it.

Dorry and Brogy are the perfect hybrid of warrior giants and kind-hearted giants. That's the type of giant that "should" exist because they treat the world of humans well while also still hanging on to ancient giant traditions. Are they the solution between the two extremes we've seen so far with Imu making them demonic and treacherous and the hyper-docile environment we've seen since the Straw Hats have landed in Elbaf? Everyone could end up happy like Dorry and Brogy always seem to be.

Loki's hatred of the world is completely due to his mother. My theory is that the Straw Hat's kindness and Hajrudin "flipping" to see him truly as a brother will convert Loki into a significant ally. He'll join the fleet, but not the direct crew. He'll be the leader that brings the giants from Elbaf into the final war. Luffy's magnetic positivity will turn him. I'm hoping we also see his bandages come off and his Haki erupt as a result, possibly into the greatest observation Haki we've seen in the series since he's been "weighted clothes training" it his entire life.

If Loki does join the Straw Hats, he would have to have a fruit that allows him to get smaller. I wonder if he has a devil fruit that allows him to change into any form. Like a devil fruit that allows you to Shape-Shift. Unlike Mr. 2 or Catarina Devon's fruit, the Shape-Shift fruit allows you to turn into anyone or anything, and it allows you to change size. A fruit based on Shape-Shifting would be very fitting since Loki is a trickster in Norse Mythology.

How does oda does it? If you compare one piece with chainsaw man, chainsaw is like 4 panels and the chapter is over, oda can cram the whole arc of the elbap pirates in one chapter with complete backstory, plot, character growth, development , relationships, and then on top of that a new arc story fully developed at the end all in one episode, it feels like he gives so much in just one episode, we are being spoiled

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but that chapter was actually really, really good. Ida’s design feels fresh for a female character, and seeing baby Loki was one of the best-drawn panels in a while. It gave me the same kind of feeling as the miscarried baby quest in Witcher 3. Yeah, Oda’s revisiting the whole tragic childhood theme again, but this time it really works, especially with how it fits into Elbaf’s culture.

Good chapter, has all the stuff I like seeing in flashbacks.

So Yamato arrives in Ringo to meet the inevitable Kiku as Daimyo. Will we get another partner for Yamato here?
