I think Oda had a really rare miss with Vegapunk as a whole.
I find nothing compelling about his character and he was dangled for decades.
The Einstein-version is just uninteresting, both in character and design and the multiple vegapunks is a really underwhelming gimmick that dilutes Vegapunk's character in totality, especially since the vegapunk versions all have basic bitch personalities and there's nothing interesting about them.
It's like he couldn't help himself and had to go schizo and split even Vegapunk into a bunch of disposable one-of characters that just eat up panel time.

So far we know BB specifically targeted the darkness fruit and knew about its importance AND on top of that he seems to have quite a bit of knowledge how to work the system to his advantage. He also doesn't seem like the type that does the research himself, but he's very cunning.

My guess is that someone like Lafitte was helping him out from the start, sort of how Trebol, Pica and Diamante groomed Doffy into their leader.
Either Lafitte and the original core BB crew supplied him with lore (even when he was still a WB crewmember) or he found a stash of Xebec's notes and went from there.

It's just very notable that he specifically targeted the darkness fruit, as if he knew at length what it is good for and made extensive plans around it. And now him being Xebec's son kinda suggests that there might be some transfer of lore knowledge going on to give him a head start.

Basically Luffy got the strawhat and nika fruit to start him off, and Blackbeard got Xebec's notes or something similar.

I think that the entire setting is basically set up so one person "runs" the world, currently this is Imu, but two "sides" compete who is going to be the next Imu. If Luffy wins the position is effectively left open and the world is left to its own devices and people are free to do whatever, but if the position is "taken" by the bad side, then the Imu situation happens and in order to keep the world under control the tyrant needs to exert more and more force and power. Basically Blackbeard is the bad lineage that would rule the world as a tyrant for another age or more, replacing Imu, but retaining Imu's "portfolio".

Too long, too slow, and too fast, it's almost schizophrenic in its pacing.
Whole Cake was better, and Dressrosa is still the peak of PTS One Piece.
I kept waiting for Wano to get interesting, then it ended.
It's disappointing too, because this arc was hyped up for a long time before Oda got to it, and it did not deliver.
