The first 2 arcs were pure aura farming MC vs everybody so people thought it was funny. Now it's trying to have a slower and more serious arc focusing on more characters, although this series has that thing where practically all the characters except the MC and his boyfriend become irrelevant or forgotten as the story goes on. The power system is pretty simple and boring too, at least JJk entertained the autistics and VSfags with its tediously detailed powers.

But looking at how series lost about 25k readers between vol6 and 8 SBA arc is certainly the problem.
Japanese readers formulated it quite well.
