Thinking about the Chidori, shouldn't the Rasengan have the exact same weakness as it? As in, it only really punches in a straight line, so shouldn't you need the Sharingan for this also for its greater vision to make up for the tunnel vision you'd have as you rush in towards the opponent?

Neji stood there even though he could cover a distance equivalent to the one between him and Kidomaru in a second while almost dead, just letting Kidomaru shower him with arrows instead of moving around and maybe detecting him (which you already have to headcanon that Neji can only see 50 meters ahead for that which is already retarded) or forcing him to move to get in range again and expose himself.
Don't get me started on the Shikamaru Tayuya fight. Now that this has been brought up, do you think that Sakon/Ukon's character could have been fixed if they switched places with Tayuya? As in, have her and Shikamaru be the ones that fall down the cliff and get separated from the main group, after which you show Sakon being able to fight off both Naruto and Kiba until Kimimaro shows up, takes the casket and Naruto follows him. That may be able to solve the problem of Sakon not appearing as strong as he's supposed to be, since he's now been shown to be able to fight two guys (+Akamaru) from the SR team simultaneously. Also Kimimaro would probably look more intimidating if he was scaring the leader of the sound four instead of Tayuya.

But on a serious note, this wouldn’t fix much, since it wouldn’t even prove anything. Kidomaru was confident in taking on Shika, Neji and Naruto just a chapter before.
If you want him to look strong he has to do more impressive stuff in his fight. You either have him defeat Kiba in a flash and he leaves thinking Kiba is dead, or have Kiba get a huge powerup like Choji so it makes sense why they would struggle to kill him.
But, personally I would have preferred if the s4 just survived the arc. They have plenty of uses in the empty ass first couple of arcs of Shippuden.
