Was I supposed to understand why Klein set up the whole fake haunting thing using Azik's ghosts? Or is that going to be revealed in the future? It sounded like he needed to be in that place to make the charms but then why orchestrate the ghosts and exorcism?

It was an alright episode, mostly a setup for the next one.
It's pretty funny how they do all these epic visuals for mundane stuff, like creating a charm.

Yes all the clues are there in the episode, Klein needs the Mutated Sun Sacred Emblem to make the Flaring Sun Charms but he can't just go get it because it's a sealed artifact and it needs approval for the captain to use it (and he can't just be honest and say it was to make charms because he can't explain how he got the knowledge to make high level charms), so he asks Azik who can control ghosts/spirits to make an incident (targeting evernight believers so the nighthawks would be notified instead of other churches) so he can formally request the use of the sealed artificat to resolve the haunting incident and make use the artifact to make the charms afterwards.

I've been concerned about this.
The lack of mention of Ince is going to make it feel like it came out of left field at the end when they do have to introduce him, and it's not like Ince himself gets much screen time at all even in the novel.
Similarly in this episode with how information about Old Neil was dropped back in episode 2 during his introduction, and then mostly in in this episode with a 5 episode gap in between. I assume Old Neil's going to get his spotlight in the next episode. I think it'd be best to hold it off until episode 10 though and really lay some foundation that all is not okay with Old Neil right now but frankly I doubt it'll happen.

Whenever you ask yourself that just remember this "adaptation" is made by a book reader whose only objective is illustrate the book. He doesn't give a fuck about secondaries much less making an anime that stands on its own. Pretty much the diametrical opposite philosophy wise of a Hollywood adaptation. Moreover not being a little familiar with chinese fantasy cultivation donghua probably makes it worse.
Therefore the answer is almost always no.

Spectator is mainly about observing the expressions, body language and speech of a person from a detatched perspective, reading their true thoughts.
Mystery Pryers and Seers are similar in what they can do. Both of them gain enhanced spirituality, access to Spirit Vision and the ability to perform ritualistic magic and divination, but Seer is better than a Mystery Pryer at both these things. The Myster Pryer gets the Eyes of Mystery Prying, which is like a better Spirit Vision but can also get you killed if stare at the wrong thing, and some basic low level spells.

It should have gotten 24 episodes (20 minutes each) at the bare minimum for season 1.
What we got was 13 episodes at 30 minutes a piece for a total run time of 6 hours 50 minutes
24 episodes at 20 minutes a piece would have been 8 hours of screen time.
I'd even go so far as to say 24 episodes at 30 minutes a piece would have been safer to fit in most of the content without trimming or running into pacing issues.
Given the production quality (pacing and length aside) I genuinely don't see a Japanese studio doing it better, especially when I consider the problems that come from Japanese studios

By sequence 7, most pathways will have access to divination since the only real requirement is spirituality. He has the power to isekai (albeit limited) and the power of the gay fog.

The gay fog explanation is a little more spoilery so I won't bother, just know that the way it ostensibly works is basically spoofing, and Leonard can do the same, and you've actually already seen him larping as a scrub like when the doll was controlling everyone and he was only pretending to be constrained by it.

This might not be to your taste, but the truth of the matter is that the more you learn about the world, the more you'll realize that for every positive, there's a negative aspect he needs to manage.
This goes back to what you said earlier about the pacing, but in episode 3 when he tries to use cogitation for the first time, he nearly kills himself thinking a missile or space suit would work for 'an object that doesn't exist'

That might frustrate you and I'd understand if it did since it kind of smugly plays with your expectations only to reveal it at a later point kind of embracing the tropes initially only to subvert them later on so the author can have his cake and eat it too.
