>For such 'adult' movies they basically prioritised spectacle action without fully considering the consequences
Man of Steel was a product of the same trend in Hollywood as something like Star Trek: Discovery or Fant4stic. You had people who thought comics books and science fiction were lame, and that they needed more swearing, more blood, more sex, and MORE DEATHS AND TRAGEDY. Of course, this is only "more adult" to millennials with arrested development syndrome who never grew out of their high school edginess. You had entire generation of writers who felt guilty for enjoying Superman and Star Wars and Star Trek as grown ass adults, they were upset that these properties didn't grow up with them, and decided to make these properties "more adult."
Of course, what Superman 2025 has to say is infinitely more adult than the pseudointellectual shit in Man of Steel and Batman V Superman, but manchildren are now throwing tantrums because the silly flying dog is too silly and childish.
