Sudachi no Maoujou finally got licensed! I've been wanting to read it forever and scanlators had barely made any progress with it. Murabito is cute and Ash and Jabara are hot. Morishita is one of the best mangaka at drawing men.

The reveal of his backstory worked so well for me. It completely recontextualized the reason for his unhinged borderline-esque personality, his weird promiscuity and his general pathetic-ness. Few characters I went from hating the guts of to being enamored with like Alois.
The fact he'll never ever be canon makes me incredibly sad.

To be fair Petra almost died so it makes sense that Lauda was scared straight by the prospect of his friend dying, so much so he catered to her feelings without looking inward too much. Of course it's just my cope headcanon but I think it's the most interesting way to look at it. Illnesses can be traumatizing and make people do shit they would never do usually. I'll be honest here. I don't like alios and I felt s2 was contrived. That said I really don't see why you would care too much about canon either. If you like him, you like him. Although kuroshitsuji is now past it's prime. You're unlikely to find the same level of cultural relevance and hold seb (and sebxciel+grell) had on teens. I barely see any kuro art these days because everyone just stopped posting online and do in person events now due to puritan culture. Plenty of people like alois but the entire sexualization of the characters won't end up being what it ever once was. How come these were never their colors and they're in denial, saying it's proof that Kaiser/Ness is canon, even though some people say it's for Sae/Rin and they try to argue against it! Even they get angry and in denial about how popular Sae/Rin is, even in English fanfics they're some of the most popular!

This is from the chill-chill English list, right? If so, I'd take that list with a grain of salt since the sample size is a lot smaller than the Japanese equivalent.

Anyways, if I were to judge the tastes, 1st place got boring for me and I struggle to understand why it's on there and thought of so highly. 2nd has its merit, though personally, I didn't enjoy the plot twist regarding the island. 3rd I've read long ago, and iirc, it wasn't bad, but did nothing to amaze me. 4th is pretty interesting and informative regarding sign language. I like it a lot, but wouldn't put it in my top 5. 5th is something I reread a lot and enjoy a lot. Hate that it's the only volume that we focus on this particular Amish couple, as the ending's time and place implications could make for an interesting story. Still, 5th is a good placement for it.
Overall, aside from 1st place, everything else has a pretty okay placement, even if I don't necessarily agree with most of it.

As much as I hate to say it, this is unironically the big M (since they don't bother to even consider gay men an audience) and explains a lot about the state of modern BL and shoujo manga. Anything that isn't plotless fluff or smut in a copy-paste school, isekai school, or more rarely an office setting is NG based on what most magazines have been putting up. It's bleak as fuck desu.

Unpopular opinion, but it's more enjoyable when there's more to talk about an imperfect series that has the skeletal structure of a homo romance, than when a series pulls off the BL romance and story flawlessly. Hell, you can see that sort of being true in fandoms too, as the strongest and longest-running fandoms depict yearning and frustration with the material, while those satisfied with its closure tend to die off quicker.

However, it is true that there needs to be a balance to the shittyness, as going too far makes it way too frustrating to even keep up with the material. You gotta dangle some good and interesting ideas every once in a while, or the fandom dies off. Whether the balance is achieved is subjective, especially for a work like Hikaru. So you'll unfortunately get the schizos shitting the thread, causing some blind hatred.

I personally enjoy the work a lot. It's not better than some of the BL which I think is of higher quality, but it still is more enjoyable to discuss than many of them in other places.

Yeah, longer paragraphs that are meant to clarify some things get called spam, pretentious, or quickly glanced over to complain about it. And despite answering their question, they just responded back to complain that the first post was too long and it's my fault. It was 105 words long, the low end for an average single paragraph. I'm going to schedule my trip to Japan during Hathaway's movie release this week I'm going to fucking win so hard because I'll be able to buy all merch and theatre versions of the bds. The last one came with the book + an audiobook of the whole first novel + the bd. I ordered it 2nd hand and can't wait to get it. I wish I could get more into it, a lot of Charisma fans have been discussing the anime and drawing crossover art, but my stupid brain is still bothered by some of the ugly client stereotypes and drink purging. There's always an air of depressing circumstances hovering over the gags. Ironic when CRSM is all about mental health issues from childhood trauma, I know. Reminds me, back in 2010s there were still people writing speculations on how Descendants of Darkness would end. They were probably motivated by the few chapter rewrites that came out in 2013-15, but I still think about those fans now and then. Well it's not really a void, people will still most likely glance at it or even read it and take the recommendation to heart. But overall people just want to debate, gossip, troll and throw shit at the wall rather than pursue "intelligent" or even casual discussion, outside of maybe the most FOTM topics. Plus it always kind of feels like when it comes to BL, people have way different things that they are into when it comes to the genre so unless you are reviewing a BL that seems overall appealing to someone's specific tastes, it'll probably be ignored.
