Anyway, my understanding (which might be wrong because the way this series defines sisterhood vs Goeido's idea of romance is weird and because I don't know what she was exactly supposed to feel for her senpai) is that Goeido was in love with her senpai, but she wanted a deep bond, to spend time with her bonding over the books they liked and things like that instead of jumping to kissing and sex. But her senpai immediately jumped at her and wanted to fuck, and since Goeido liked her and wanted to be loved back, she was fine having sex with her. But their relationship was likely shallow and based on physical intimacy rather than in something deeper, and Goeido confirmed it when the senpai ended up getting over class S and getting married. Even though Goeido wanted something deeper, she became convinced that physical intimacy is the main aspect of romance and that anything else is secondary as some weird form of repetition compulsion caused by trauma. That's why for Goeido it's enough to kiss, fuck, and exchange words of love even if the relationship lacks a genuine connection where both parties care about each other. The latter is what Sumika was obsessed with, to the point she completely rejected the "selfish" aspect of romance, and being Goeido's total antithesis, Goeido came to hate her. But Mai calls her out, saying that what she really wanted was a "sister" like Sumika, someone who would truly care about her and treasure her for life, a bond whose root isn't romance (I'm guessing 恋愛 here means a romantic relationship but that lacks the sisterhood part aka the selfless, lasting love because the priority is physical intimacy). Anyway I have no idea what the fuck Miman is doing.

Publishing fantasy manga is an uphill battle unless it's isekai or villainess running through the tropes. Fantasy was also unpopular before isekai came along.
Sci-fi has been unpopular for decades. And it has maybe the highest skill floor for genres? You have to know how things work, predict a future that makes some kind of sense, staple a message about present society to it, make rules that can't just be "lol a wizard did it."
The specific problem with both of these and yuri is the struggle of balancing romance with the setting. Yuri readers get bored when there's too much plot and loredumping, scifi/fantasy fans get bored when there's too much girls having feelings. And both genres require lots of effort put into crafting the world. Effort that's wasted if you're axed in 3 volumes. It's much easier to just come up with 2 psycho JKs in generic school #356 and fire and forget.

The danger with Kasumi's manga is the slow start. The 1st chapter doesn't introduce much. The real hook isn't there until chapter 4/5. It matters to explore Kasumi and build up Paruyo before pulling the rug, but risky no matter how good the art and writing is in this short attention span industry.
