Personally I find HxH to be seinen because a lot of characters acts and thinks like a smart adult. Let alone some themes that were shown. I'm not talking about the gore -apparently there is tendency to identify something as seinen because it has a lot of blood and violence (Berserk for example)-. But the true maturity or seinen-esque doesn't lie in blood, it lies in psychological themes. For example, who was initially demonstrated as a hero, but he received so much smart deconstruction (his ambiguous growth during palace assault) that he started to be perceived like a real person in fantasy world. The detalisation, the completness of a character's psychology is what I call seinen.

That's the biggest problem for me. Genuinely cant believe the same guy who wrote Level E spat out such an unmemorable guy. I would have introduced some twist to his ability where he can start sacrificing pieces of his own body to pull off more complex bombing tricks that Gon + crew have to cope with.
That way you get some payoff from his relationship with his friends (No Genthru, you can sacrifice pieces of us too) + you'd have a villain who's literally tearing himself apart in the pursuit of millions (billions?) of dollars.

I liked the scene where Gon sacrificed an arm to prove a point, it was about the most Gon-like thing he could have done. But really, wouldn't it have been more memorable if Genthru was the one blowing himself up? Not just in a, "Oh, I know what will happen," way, but in a, "This chapters will have this, this and this, this chapter will have this, this and this, etc." way. He specifically mentioned the timeline, which is important because he has so many characters, even if you try to break them down into groups, it can be easy to accidentally write yourself into a plot hole or asspull and he's trying to avoid that. Most mangaka only have a vague idea of what future chapters will entail as they write a new one every week and it gets published in less than a month, but Togashi doesn't have those constraints so he can take his time and plan things out better. The Succession Contest's timeline already technically has two holes in it according to Voracious Drake and Togashi has made mistakes in the past even with simpler arcs.

Speaking of fiction authors always on hiatus, George R. R. Martin has a similar problem with A Song of Ice and Fire. He wrote the first three books in just a few years, but the fourth and fifth took years to come out because he had trouble juggling all the different characters' subplots and how they fit into the timeline. He eventually worked it out, but now he's found himself with even bigger problems as he gets closer to the finale. Some character he keeps rewriting their chapters over and over again and he even implied there's a character he regrets killing off. I'm sure Togashi has tangoed with similar problems and has used some portion of this hiatus to save himself future headaches.
