What one might say about Shinji is that he is "fag-able." That is to say, given his traumatic childhood, his distant upbringing, his psychological stress, and his particular struggles with bonding with both men and women, he is in a particular mindstate where grooming him into faggotry wouldn't be as hard as it would be for other young men. His inborn inclinations might be towards heterosexuality, or at least bisexuality, but with the right influence he could be turned gay, pretty darn gay at that, I'd wager.

Congratulations is Shinji's Good End. End of Evangelion is a Bad End for Shinji, and in a different way, the Rebuild ending is a Bad End too.

The problem I have with rebuild end is that it conflates saying farewell to the franchise with farewell to the characters. That is to say, in escaping Eva, shinji is escaping those he formed bonds with. They represent the old and shinji must shed himself of them. It’s a somewhat distasteful way of dealing with it.
