Nearly every named character cuts into you with the Mono no Aware theme in here and having the last cut in not be one of pain but the irony that time's passage did in fact heal a great scar that Jinya could have known about if they had just spoken up before he left.

That's not how that works. The studio accepted the job to adapt an agreed-upon number of episodes (in this case: 24), got an agreed-upon budget, and now they're contractually obliged to deliver them before an agreed-upon deadline. If they run out of budget (or more commonly: time), they're forced to air unfinished episodes (which has happened at least three times for this show) or reschedule them (which also happened a few weeks ago).
Anime almost never get canceled mid-season, and the studio doesn't have the power to make that call.
