Honestly, the decline of the series’ brand is on ONE’s slow ass writing.
By the time S1 ended, Murata’s version was already in the MA arc prologue, while ONE’s was still stuck with post-MA cleanup chapters.
Murata catching up was inevitable, so it had no choice but to pad things out with filler.
That’s when the gap widened, pacing died, and fans started leaving.
If ONE had just updated more often, this wouldn’t have happened.

I was under the impression that it's precisely because the Phoenix Man redraws kept happening that people turned on Murata's writing, especially when ONE is working on several other manga following Mob Psycho 100's ending, and especially when we consider Murata's obsession with his craft. I doubt that ONE would tell Murata to scrap his art repeatedly for a story he had already told on his first go around, to say nothing about the many divergent points of the manga.
