We know there's no other way to create stakes besides killing either Denji or Asa, two belowed characters with lots of screen time, because not a single other character was fleshed out or explored enough for the reader to care. And since Asa has plot armor, the only one who can be killed off for the stakes and shock value is Denji. After all, for Yoru to fight Shi-chan she needs the erasure weapon first. Do we agree?

I think Asa simply accepted a "role" as Yoshida would say. She might think it's the right thing to do if Yoshida was given enough time to convince her, same as Shigger did in Church arc when she raided Asa's fridge. Asa is prone to suggestion. However methods in which a mangaka writes a TEEN ROMANCE (yes that's what CSM Part 2 is primarily) is not by making characters jump into a fight immediately but rather by making them bond first through silly interactions, funny dialogues, unexpected actions like running around the city going to a brothel and such and only then later to they start fighting. And finally the most important ingredient, dramatic emotionally charged sexual interactions. You're forgetting Yoru and Katana are only there with Denji to FIGHT him, but instead of jumping into a fight immediately they're running around the city doing stupid shit because this is primarily a teen romance and coming-of-age story. Same will happen in the sushi place because Fumiko will be off duty. She has a special bond with Denji, both intimate and sexual in nature but primarily she wants to save him too like Asa. The difference between Fumiko and Asa is that Fumiko isn't as naive nor misguided as Asa, so she is no one else's pawn. With her Denji stands a chance of survival. She can offer him a chance to run away from both PS and Kiga/Church/War devil. Whether she's successful of not is waiting to be unraveled. As for Yoshida, he will do a 180 with Asa and instead of arresting her he'll offer to help her because at that point she will be completely emotionally scarred by Denji.

Comparing Yoshida to Reze doesn't work, Reze's relationship with Denji was central to her character, her emotions are more clear, and it's a tragic love story so you're invested. Nobody's going to go UWU, Yoshida got to have fun at school because Yoshida's moments at school aren't shown and Denji and Yoshida are friends, but neither of them really appreciate what a friend is. Yoru is fun
She feels less threatening than Makima because Makima had that aura of mystery to her, you didn't know what she was going to do until the very end.
But Yoru is much more comedic and fun, she also bounces off Asa's timid personality pretty well, you grow attached to her even knowing she's an evil little shit
They are the best part of part 2 but so far haven't amounted to a lot, the next charpters will decide my final opinion on them

I still enjoy the manga, I just reject that characters become irrelevant the moment they are out of the story. Csm became famous because part 1 was good, part 1 characters get to take the credit for that.
Aki will also always be a memorable, key character to csm, even if he has been gone for a while and unlike conquest can't even return.
