Sadly the lesson could have been good, but there wasn't much meat.

Summary for the anons that need it, part 1: Its time for another Athletics tournament and Chiyu is pushing herself further once again, but this time there is a real match against another girl. Its close, but this new girl ultimately doesn't cut it. The girl sportily shakes Chiyu's hand and asks her to compete at the world stage next time. At the victory celebration, brought to them by Hinata's sister, Chiyu is distracted, but noticeably. Next day the girls meet up when sissy school photographer demands an interview, before getting mogged by Chiyu's fans. Later the interview happens, only for Chiyu's coach to approach them and inform her she has a duo interview with the rival girl the next day. At a real interview, Chiyu learns the rival girl, Tsubasa, has a similar dream. After the interview the girls are finishing up changing and Tsubasa reaffirms her want to meet Chiyu on the world stage, but Chiyu explains she's not going to pursue high jump that far, to this Tsubasa breaks down and screams at her how Chiyu messed up her efforts made them worthless. At Hinata's Chiyu is utterly distracted, wondering if she could make it up, or fix it. The girls get tired of her spaciness and force her to talk. After explaining the happenings, Hinata gets pissed off at the girl and points out Chiyu's dreams are her's alone.

Summary part 2: Mostly convinced, the next day Chiyu stuns the school athletes going wild further pushing her high jumps, to the horror of Nodo and Hina. After succeeding, Chiyu zooms off, leaving the other two in the dust. Getting to the other school, she finds she missed Tsubasa, and takes off again. Just as Chiyu is about to find the girl, Shindoine attacks, transforming Tsubasa into the Junji Ito spring boy. The other girls happen to catch up just in time and start in on the MoTW. Shindoine takes interest in Fontaine and begins attacking and mocking her personally for defending a rival; rivals should be stomped into the ground according to Shindoine. In a moment of distraction, Fontaine kicks Shindoine out of the field, and then uses her full cure power to high jump a mile into the air, before slamming the MoTW down. After giving Tsubasa a good collon cleansing, Tsubasa apologies to Chiyu for putting her dreams on her, and applying so much pressure. Chiyu shakes it off and offers a future competition between the two.

It is going to hyper fuck with me if I ever find out the Chiyu haters are Pegitan lovers. Pegitan is absolute cringe, and the pre-rejection state before a /pc/ goer.

I do wonder if I like Chiyu more because I have a lot of experiences similar to Chiyu. Like I've had people blame me for their weird dreams failing and its oddly hard for kids to get over it. I appreciate Hinata being the voice of reason, which she has been pretty hard the past several episodes, but sadly its just so lacking. As far as Reiwa era (2020+) Precure goes, Kimi to Idol one of the best offerings because it's a legit fun show in a moment to moment basis, very expressive with a generally good storyboard direction.
I would argue it has the better fights too because the competition isn't very in Reiwa era, but it still lags behind some popular seasons like GoPri.
Now, the season itself isn't very "dramatic" if that makes sense, it's no Hugtto 2.0, but that's fine, I think it's doing its thing well, a show that feels enjoyable to check every week.

It was always the case that she would be pretty popular designwise, but it definitely helps that she was a major focus of the season in general from her first appearance up to this point and that her character arc overall was surprisingly well done. I was kind of worried it was too ambitious for its own good, but I'm satisfied with how it was done. More chill Meroron is still pretty fun as of episode 31; I hope she continues to be so.
Maybe not next year, but I think we'll probably get another black Cure 2 or 3 years from now since Meroron has shown black to be a popular precure color.

I don't think it'll go that far at the very least. I think the worst case scenario is the post Meroron stuff being too SOL heavy and then the season having to rush the plot for the finale, but as long as the show gets back on track with the plot by October or even November, I'm sure it'll be fine. Jogi's ok enough; he has more going on than Snakehead at a glance, and even if Kaito backstory ends up hijacking the show, it's pretty obvious that they aren't going the romance route with him and the lead at least.
Since Darkiine is described as the omen of darkness (as opposed to Meroron being the one who knows darkness), I don't think she's the real final boss, so maybe the Darkiine/real true final boss stuff will be rushed, but we'll see. I'll wait until the last cour to really doompost about it since the overarching plot development of Idol has been mostly smooth enough so far.

Not really. The problem with Sora was that Mashiro started to feel like the real lead about halfway in. That probably wouldn't be too bad if Sora's character arc felt complete, but it wasn't really. All Stars F ironically does a better job with Sora's arc than the season itself. At least in the movie, it felt like Sora had a good grasp on what it meant to be a hero whereas it didn't feel like that by the end of the show.
