This flashback really is the best thing to happen to OP post TS. Ironically, it all happened years before the start of the story. That's one of my irks post-time skip. Money was consistently an issue for the Straw Hat's pre-time skip. Pretty sure they got loot in Alabasta, then stole tons of gold in Skypiea, then they sold the gold in Water 7 but the money got stolen and they had to get it back, then finally they got lots of treasure in Thriller Bark. But the money was mostly needed for ship repairs I guess. The Straw Hats can easily acquire meat anywhere they go from hunting, and they usually get gifted a ton of food in the Kingdoms they save.
