Galactic heroes is weird anon. The movie was great and I really enjoyed Yang a lot more than I thought I would have but the series had such a great start until about episode 16? episode 16-22 have been such a slog I'm considering dropping it. I don't even know what's going on because i've been zoning it out too much due to feeling like a slog.

Why were you on the wiki in the first place? Thats an awful spoiler. If really you didnt like the political intrigue and infighting of those episodes then the show itself might not be for you, but the focus on side characters fades as it focuses more and more on the main cast as it goes on.

I did actually learn from the wiki something and I skipped ahead a bit to some of the ovas of siegfrieds youth. those OVAs were really nice. In a way as much as the spoiler was kind of a big deal and I was really annoyed about reading it, reading the wiki did help me sort of choose the timeline of what things I want to watch at least. I didn't actually even know, for example, that there was a few movies. I'm really glad that I went and saw the movie after because it's my type of movie. the humor in it was pretty good.

First ever yaoi ship too. Funny story about these two, I used to be a Demande/Usagi shipper and didn’t even know this ship existed because I was mostly exposed only to the old dub while growing up. Regular shoujo was never really gay outside of mahou shoujo save for the rare Banana Fish type series which would get labeled as shoujo instead of BL. Shoujo instead has always been a genre dominated by yumejoshi self-insert ikemen or bishounen het romance & soap operas. Only magical girl shoujo dabbled in fujo pandering and baiting with its side characters.

As for why Mahou Shoujo itself stopped being fujo friendly? Blame Naoko Takeuchi who took it upon herself to invite the yuritroon audience into the genre with the Sailor Moon manga and her next planned work PQ Angels, both of which served as the influence for modern day magical girl franchises like Precure and Madoka, the genre has been cannabalized by the yuritroon incel ojisan audience ever since.

Kagurabachi has a handsome man for everyone and every ship preference with more on the horizon, and Ichi the Witch has that familiar "close and passionate" relationship between Ichi and his new bro. Harukaze mound also has the typical sus relationship between the battery. Kiyoshi in UEK is about to spend about two weeks sleeping over at his best bro's house and there's a pretty vocal group who ship his mentor figure plus the stoic slightly younger guy who's hung up on him.

If you want to get a bit more obscure, there's The God Before Me and it's boatload of men that idolise and chase after each other. And Empyreal Cabinet which has a bunch of old men trying to backstab without being backstabbed; MC and his extremely loyal retainer are great but he also has other friends, even one he played footsies under a table with.

Shounen's not dead it's just less on romance in general I think. Stuff like JJK and KnY were super successful without strong romantic subplots, so perhaps it frees up authors that don't really want to write one.
