Yes i do think we need manufacturing in the US but tariffs are only a small picture. They can help if applied intelligently to specific goods (alongside export tariffs). But the larger issue is the labor market. We need incentives to get people to work in manufacturing and for manufacturers to list competitive wages for their jobs. For the past few decades weve mostly just been subsidizing manufacturers which doesnt help much because manufacturers use subsidies to expand and increase throughput, they dont have incentives to improve their wages which is what is needed more to get people actually into these jobs.
