Too groggy in the morning?
When I get up to go to work in the morning, its so fucking difficult for me. I can wake up and get myself to work but as soon as I sit at my desk, my body pretty much shuts down. I zone out at my desk and when I stand up I feel almost drunk. I thought maybe it had something to do with me being bored at work but I definitely have work to do etc. Its not until about 3 hours after I get to work that I feel better. Even then the groggy feeling sort of creeps back in and I have to fend it off. My eyes get heavy and roll around in my head. I can still hear and such but I feel like I am dreaming while awake at my desk somehow. I will sort of oscillate between that state and awake. What I have noticed is that loud sounds or abrupt things will jolt me awake and alert me and I will feel fine for awhile. Like if a door slams, it will snap me out of that haze for a good while.

What can I do to help myself? I hate this feeling so much. I hate it. I just want to wake up refreshed in the morning. I actually can't remember the last time I woke up and actually felt good.

Talk to your doctor and get them to do a sleep study. Could be anything from obstructive apnoea to narcolepsy.

I do that already 3 days a week.

I have noticed that I wake up and usually have pretty bad neck pain. I started doing some stretches to remedy it and they help a bit. But it only seems painful when I wake up in the morning. Is narcolepsy all that common also?

This is exactly what happened to me when I used to take melatonin before bed at night. I felt groggy the next day and got vertigo and dizziness.

Yup, this really makes me thing the problem is your body has too much melatonin when you wake up. Since you don't seem to be taking melatonin supplements, it seems to me that your body is entering the "deep sleep" stage of sleep way too late, so when you wake up you're actually in the middle of your sleep cycle.

This, I would bet something is interrupting your sleep. If you don't want to go to the doctor and do a sleep study, the next best thing is an Oura ring or other fitness tracker that can track your sleep cycle.

Oh I also have bad neck pain when I wake up, though recently it's manifested as pain in between my shoulder blades instead, but it's bad enough to wake me up. I do lift weights and am pretty bulky which might be why.

Could be your pillow not supporting your neck properly.

youre obviously sleeping wrong then - if on back maybe too many pillows, if on side maybe too few pillows

find your waking/sleeping rhythm/schedule
it could be that youre waking up too late or going to bed before/after your sleep schedule begins
basically you know some mornings you wake up early or whenever and you feel just alert - thats the time you should get up, so next time you wake in the night or early morning note it down, typically its in 6 hours slots so you can then work it out from there when is best to wake up
its a possibility
otherwise likely diet
could also be too much exercise, stress, not enough rest, too much stimulation

why do you mention narcolepsy? sleep apnia is more likely

I may end up just going to the doctor. What you say may be true though. I have had issues like this for basically all my life since I can remember. The only time I felt good when waking up is when I didn't use an alarm clock. If I sleep and wake up naturally(so typically on the weekends) I don't normally feel this awful.

I have had the same pillows for 8 years so maybe I should get new ones. Not even sure which ones to get though. If neck support is what I am looking for.

I normally try to sleep on my back and normally I use one pillow. As for sleep apnea, I thought about that too because I am a stronger guy. I hear that sleep apnea effects weight lifters just as much as obese people also. I recorded myself sleeping one night and I did hear myself snoring but it was a brief span of time.

Not common, but common enough that you shouldn't rule it out without an EEG and polysomnography.

Ugh, don't do that! No wonder you can't sleep and have neck pains. Get a good mattress of the correct firmness, and a pillow of the right height, and sleep on your side.
