Was your school a shack in the middle of a moor surrounded by sheep? Everywhere I look, others in the UK say they learned both North and South America. Leaving them as one big America doesn't even make sense logically if you're also considering Europe and Asia as separate. The isthmus of Panama is narrow and a perfect place to split the continents in two; Asia and Europe have no perfect boundary between them, especially not in the Ural/Kazakhstan area.
Also you forgot Antarctica, so maybe I'm just falling for bait.

Colloquially the US is referred to as America. When people want to refer to one of the two American continents they typically use North America and South America. If you say "America" when referring to North America as a continent you are just being obtuse.

I rescued this female about 18 months ago. She did not appreciate it at fucking all. Hid in her enclosure most of the time, literally pissed on everything all of the other times. She got so shy she was pissing her nesting box I made her instead of coming out, even if I was in bed with all the lights out.
Ended up waiting as long as I could for the weather to turn a little warmer before releasing her. I still put out food and she still takes massive shits all around my pond in the front yard.
I wish she had been one of the friendly ones.
