The Monica dream saga so far:

1st dream:
I'm a magic cat. Monica is a villain who has me caught in a death trap. I destroy her machine. She escapes -- but not before I ask her name.

2nd dream:
I'm a magic cat. This is an erotic dream with Monica and I in a hotel.

3rd dream:
I'm a magic cat -- but I'm in the form of a snake. I ask Monica if it would bother her if she knew that I wasn't always a cat. (I wake up before she answers.)

4th dream:
I'm a magic cat. We're back in the hotel bed together. She wraps an arm around me and remarks, "You're a dumb cat, but you're my cat."

5th dream:
I'm a human. I'm writing something down and making future plans. Monica asks if I think I'm taking things too far. (I don't remember the subject matter, but I apparently had some pettiness in mind for someone who had wronged me in the past.)

So, according to this latest dream, the character of Monica is attached to "me" and not just the character that I frequently dream myself as.

This is playing games with my head.

I might be *more* at ease if I believed I was receiving some sort of paranormal messages from beyond. Knowing it's fiction somehow makes the situation worse.

Do you have an opinion on what sort of weapon is the most elegant/feminine to you?

Purrsonally I like sniper rifles and bows. Very womanly.

In the first dream, Monica looked like Vanessa, the Sea Witch's alter ego from The Littler Mermaid. (Pic Related) But her hair was a little more brunette and she had Princess Leia buns in her hair.

In all subsequent appearances, she's had raven hair and has more closely resembled a young Monica Bellucci.

I guess my brain registered that I was attracted to "Monica" and adhered itself to the most attractive person to have that name. (Not that I'm complaining.)

I'm getting sleepy.

I can tell by how sloppy my writing is becoming.

Okay, so Google AI is telling me this isn't true. The sword being a penis is universally accepted. (Duh.) The bow is meant to evoke feminine energy because of the association between the crescent moon and femininity.

But there is a medieval badge of a vagina riding a horse and carrying a bow and arrow.

I guess I shouldn't say "duh" like a smart ass grade-schooler. But the term penis literally translates to sword.

I don't know. She was introduced as a villain. Maybe she would go full, "If I can't have you, no one can," mode.

Her calling me out on pettiness is a good sign that she has some moral character.

Frankly, I don't know to what extent my conscious mind has in influencing these dreams. I know that these dreams respond to the events of the day, or the thoughts that weigh heavy during my waking hours, but I can't say, "I'd like visit Jurassic Park in my next dream," and make it happen.

The first dream about Monica, I believe, came about because I reflected during waking hours that my character had five male villains and no female adversaries.

She showed up. She seemingly tried to kill me. I had this, "I swear I'm not simping for the villain," moment at the end of the dream. I woke up hoping that she would become another recurring character in the magic cat mythology.

I daydreamed about a hypothetical scenario where I showed up to foil an unspecified scheme of hers. In that daydream, she saw me on a monitor and remarked, "It's that stupid cat," before she checked her reflection and straightened her hair.

That night, my dream bypassed what I expected to be standing tension and just went straight to us having sex.

I believe her affectionately calling me a "dumb cat" in a night dream was a direct response to me daydreaming about a scenario in which she calls me a "stupid cat" while trying to repress how she really feels about me.

My dreams have been like that since March. If I could go through a catalog of my dreams, I'm sure it's been that way for a long time. But it's a lot more noticeable because I'm (mostly) dreaming about being something other than what I am in the real world.

Even though these dreams respond to what I think about during waking consciousness, I try to let them run their own course because of how organic it all feels.

I feel like intentionally trying to influence my dreams would be something akin to looking a gift horse in the mouth. (That, and it hasn't worked the few times that I've attempted to take the reigns.)

Today was about reviewing the Writer's Market so that I could realistically know what to expect. Not just in terms of individual publication standards, but also in regards to a specific company's voice.

This publication doesn't want horror stories. This one wants adult focus or upper end young adult focus. This publisher wants content written for female audiences, but they don't want lesbian relationships unless they're written by women.

I've likely written down only a third of the viable options for a first-time author. And I haven't made it as far as reviewing any publisher's specific catalogues. I can't stop and read every book, nor could I rewrite my entire story to cater to a specific publisher, but I can get a better feel for what they are looking for.

Let's say that I was writing a screenplay and that the three major studios were allowing submissions from first-time screenwriters.

I would know that Universal is the home of horror and science fiction. I would know that Disney likes strong female characters, witty banter to alleviate tension, and as much diversity as they can realistically expect to market in places like China and Abu Dhabi. And I would know that Warner Bros. has always prided itself on being dark, dramatic, and intelligent.

If I had an original science fiction story with a female lead, my best bets for getting it made into a movie would be pitching it to Universal or Disney.

So it is with publishing a novel. I know what I want to write, but it helps to know the perimeters of what a specific publisher is looking for and whether or not my story fits their MO.
