Gaming is for lazy NEETs who refuse to work. Society should force them to work extra to compensate for the drain on society caused by their behavior.
Bully NEETs. Shame NEETs. Force NEETs to work overtime. Make NEETs work during lunch break. Force NEETs to work during the weekends. Strap electric collars to NEETs and shock them for slacking off. Make NEETs recite the National Work Ethic Anthem every day in the morning. Induce lucid dreaming in NEETs to make them work in their sleep. Make NEETs work until they die.

Almost everything developed now is about how to capture the mobile audience. Games where you spend hours grinding levels and gear are really only being played by people that were born before 2000. New games are about the MTX and quick matches

Hi-ho, former EQ dev here! DEI+Covid killed gaming. That's why we're all unemployed now. Thankfully I did alright and didn't squander my dev buks so extended unemployment has been kind of a chill hiatus psuedo-neet experience for me. But for the vast majority, they are fucked and leaving the industry. Aside from things actively in development, you won't see anything new or interesting for at least five years since it'll be probably another year at least before venture capital starts feeling comfortable enough to fund gaming and then it takes 2-5 years to make a small game. In the meantime, embrace the small indy game so we can eat.

there's a lot of really good indie games, and much of the time, i'd rather play an indie game than a game made by triple A developers. the only triple A developers i make an exception for are Valve and FromSoftware, even though FromSoftware kinda rehashes the same shit over and over with the Souls games

2010-2011 was already at/beyond the slippery slope. CoD: Black Ops was released in 2010 and it was the perfect slippery slope. Ok to good multiplayer, huge player base, and triple A slop single player which was trash and everybody just took for granted. Origin store was also a big thing and dropped in 2011. Everybody else just copied triple A slop and perma online bullshit from then on (even though that store was just a copy of Steam, but the point is that it was slop).

I chalked it up to just being old but it feels like at some point the meta-game of Discord supplanted and became more important than the game itself (whatever the game is). And I guess that's the point. The game doesn't matter, what matters is the meta-game of the Discord community surrounding the game.

WoW provided millions of people with millions of hours of entertainment, and is a very good game.

What is killing games is microtransactions and DLC content... releasing 60% complete games at "full price" and then a few weeks later releasing a $30 patch.

Releasing a fighting game w\ 8 playable characters and then making you wait months at a time for them to add 1 character at atime for a fee... That's what has hurt gaming the most.

A lot devs broke off to start their own smaller studios and poached people. Hopefully they wised up and kept it private, but who knows which of those studios will succeed or fail. Its why there is finally an RTS revival when the whole genre flat out died because the AAA studios abandoned the entire genre. Of course there is all the indie stuff but yeah shit ain't good for most devs. Especially the greats who made the classic and amazing games. Some of which was extremely technically challenging like RTS.

I will wipe you the frick out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my frickin’ words. You think you can get away with saying that crap to me over the Internet?

Think again, buddy. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, buddy.

The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re frickin dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands.

Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable butt off the face of the continent, you little poopy-head.

If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your stinking tongue.

But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you big jerk. I will rain fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re in frickin’ trouble, mister.

After the release of XBox 360 and PS3 in 2006 studios were innovating a lot to make use of the huge leap in computing power compared to the previous generation. So we saw a lot of great games and new franchises between 2006-2010. But then the industry got greedy and cocky because of their success and started fucking up from 2011 by releasing shitty sequels and trying to make more money through half-assed unfinished games, DLCs and microtransactions.

Started shifting from video games to board games and it's a much healthier decision. Most games are hot ass and require so much modding that it's simply too much effort to get into gaming.

When the Arthas story line finished. That's when the era from ps1 / n64 to wrath of the lich king ended, and then computer parts became cheap and widely available and graphics didn't really get much better, and the "gamer" was marketed as now cool and streaming began.

After the towers fell in 2001, the cultural zeitgeist turned to military glorification, so video games leaned hard into looking like military movies, and military movies were all drab and gray (because Hayes codes about glorifying war). So as a result, in an effort to look "realistic and gritty" most games from 2004-2010 had absolutely monochromatic color palletes, with the color spectrum being a few shades of gray, brown, rust, or (if they really wanted to spice it up) ghostly green. F:NV chose orange.

minecraft is the only meaningful game on that list everything else is garbage.

good mobile phones started releasing in 2008 with the first iphone - skyrim released 2011. then you had shit like league and dota releasing so i would put the official "death of gaming" year as 2012. barely anything good released after that. the few good games rely heavily on copying some pre 2012 games. only indie devs have the balls to create new stuff since

When linkin park stopped being a cool new thing in the mid 2010s and became to millennials as nirvana is to gen x or queen is to gen boomer.

The real question is where are the good zoomer bands that define their gay generation and why do they always claim millennial ones.
