When I try to do the Hendrix chord thing with thumb on the bass note like

I find it pretty uncomfortable and there's really no way for me to do it without getting the guitar neck right in the palm of my hand with no gap, making the twiddly little double stop hammer-on hendrix-isms pretty impractical and uncomfortable, if not downright impossible while holding that bass note down, such as

Meanwhile, the thumb on the bass note works pretty well for basic "jazz voicings" (7th chords) like

though most jazzers tend to not do the thumb over thing.

I think when they had an opportunity to make Wind Waker's cel shading stuff look like the manual art from Zelda 1 and 2 but decided on a gay blobby art style and also when they chose Lance Bass to voice Sephiroth were some of the big "wtf are they doing" moments for me.
